  • Family-friendly wild camping on a working farm in Cornish countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to the Eden Project; 10 minutes to Mevagissey
  • Animals and farm shop on site, beaches and pubs within 15 minutes
Tregenna Farm offers wild camping in a secluded Cornish hay meadow near St Austell. This is a wonderfully family-friendly site based on a working farm, with lots of playful piglets, calves and ponies that kids can befriend in neighbouring fields. On site, you’ll spot chickens, geese and ducks wandering around freely too. If your first port of call is the beach, three are within 15 minutes’ drive of the farm, with paddleboarding and surfing facilities and rental too. Big-hitting local attractions include the restored, 200-acres Lost Gardens of Heligan (10 minutes) and the ever-changing Eden Project (20 minutes), with rare plants and trees blooming in futuristic biodomes. You can access walks and cycling routes direct from the farm, and the South West Coast Path (15 minutes) gives you views along the spectacular Cornish coastline. The owners offer free-range and organic eggs for sale every morning, as well as home-made jams and pickled onions. In the evening you can spark up the grill and get barbecuing – St Austell has handy supermarkets, as well as plenty of takeaways if you’d rather not cook. You can also source fish and chip shops, traditional pubs serving local ciders and harbour-front fish restaurants in coastal villages like Mevagissey (10 minutes).

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: This is a beautiful, peaceful hill-top field with lovely views and stars. It is just a few miles cycling on quiet lanes to the tourist sites but feels completely off the beaten track. Gerald was friendly and welcoming. The only facilities are a nice clean portaloo and tap so you will need to be self-sufficient.
