  • Pet-friendly Cornwall site five minutes' drive from the Eden Project
  • Indoor market, food hall and play centre a short walk away
  • Retro American-style diner on site; food pub within walking distance
Finding somewhere special to settle down in Cornwall can be tricky, but Par Camping is a promising choice indeed. This spacious site is a convenient five-minute drive from every gardener's holy of holies, the Eden Project. The rest of southern Cornwall's offerings can be easily reached along the A390, whether you're heading for a swim at Carlyon Bay beach or fancy a day out in Fowey. This pet-friendly spot on the edge of Par has a dedicated dog-walking area as well as handy amenities like toilets and showers. The site is located next to the very popular Par Market and Food Hall, where you can pick up all sorts of souvenirs, fresh local produce and tasty meals from a wide range of food outlets. There’s a pub with excellent food and a beer garden a few minutes’ walk away too. If you’d rather stay on site to be fed, you might like to take a seat at Sam’s Diner, a 50s-style American eatery (all red-leather booths and period memorabilia) for a meal of juicy burgers accompanied by frothy shakes. If the kids need somewhere to blow off steam, that’s covered as well – Kidzworld, one of the largest indoor/outdoor play facilities in the area, is a mere two-minute walk from the site, with activities for kids of all ages (yes, parents included…).

Local attractions

It's a 20-minute walk (or a few minutes' drive) down to Carlyon Bay, the closest bathing spot on Cornwall's southern coast, where as well as swimming or paddling you can pick up the South West Coast Path for ambles down to the pretty village of Charlestown or the quiet shingle shores of Spit beach. A trip to the Eden Project (five minutes' drive) is another absolute must – and once you've finished touring each of its spectacular ecosystems, more plant-themed days out await in such spots as the landscaped green grounds of Tregrehan Garden (20 minutes' walk) or the lush landscapes of Luxulyan Valley Woods (10 minutes' drive). Being in such a central Cornish location opens up trips further afield too – follow the coast down to the pretty town of Fowey (a quarter of an hour) and its wildlife haven estuary, head out to the rugged Lizard Peninsula (an hour) or make your way to Falmouth (45 minutes) or Plymouth (an hour) for a spot of shopping.

Liked: It is a basic site with hot shower, washing base, and toilets ,what else do you need. The beach was 15 min walk, close to the Eden project . John was very welcoming and very helpful. Cannot wait to come back next summer

Disliked: The car park next to the site had a gate that was never locked with was access for the market hall and the night emergency (portal's wasn't clean as often.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Proximity to amenities.
Cleanliness of facilities

Disliked: Very basic; a field with portacabins for loos and showers next to a public carpark.
The site felt a bit abandoned. We tried calling to let them know we would not be arriving before 6pm, but could only leave a message. We arrived and couldn't see any instructions for us, so found a space and pitched up.
The following morning we awoke to find a carboot sale setting up in the adjoining carpark.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Close to the Eden project and restaurant (Sam’s diner) next door.

Disliked: The location and setup of the campsite is poor - it’s next to a set of industrial buildings and is a basic area of grass. The toilets are a walk from the campsite across a dark service road (wouldn’t let your children go alone), there is no security around the site and there is constant noise all night from moving vehicles or the busy road. We also woke up in the morning to find a car boot sale in the campsite car park which was out of place. Washing up facilities and showers are basic. Generally speaking, the entire concept needs redesigning.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, we are sorry to hear of your troubles during your stay. There are pop-up toilet facilities on the campsite field for our customers convenience - the other toilet block across the road is just an additional, alternate option. Par Camping is a basic site and this is reflected in the price the best we can. We also do everything we can to not falsely advertise anything about our site online. However, we thank you for your feedback and apologise that you did not enjoy your stay with us.
