The golden lion inn

  • Peaceful pub site a few minutes' walk from Stithians Lake
  • A short walk from a watersports centre for activities on the lake
  • Award-winning gardens on site
It’s bottoms up at peaceful The Golden Lion Inn - Lakeside Camping, a few minutes' walk from Stithians Lake. Enjoy a tipple and some top-notch pub grub at the inn just a flower bed away, either in the oak-beamed bar in front of one of the three log fires, or out in the beer gardens overlooking the lake. No need to worry about not catching up on sleep after an evening out – the pub is food and family-oriented so there’s no concern about shenanigans after closing time. All pitches are level, and the site also has fishing and (non-motorised) watersports available via the watersports centre next door; there's also a lovely circular walk around the lake that will help you work up an appetite for your pub dinner. It’s within easy reach of local towns Redruth, Falmouth, Helston and Truro, and is less than an hour’s drive from the award-winning Eden Project.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Pitches were fairly level, peaceful, easy check in etc. The food in the pub is delicious - and the pub itself is a gem!

Disliked Facilities could really do with improvement, the toilet and shower block was grubby, and the only sinks available to brush teeth were in the toilet cubicles which didn’t feel very hygienic.

The site is excellent for walking, sailing, bird watching, great for dogs.…

Liked The welcome was excellent. The pitch was quiet. The gardens and lake were really lovely. Showers and toilets and wash up, drier and washing machine all working and clean. But the food, that was utterly amazing, delicious.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked A friendly welcome though no "welcome pack" as stated on the signs as you go into the campsite. That's fine though did have to ask for the WiFi code - would have been nice to have had just a piece of paper with things like this on.

We went for an electric hook up but it didn't work. We were able to plug into the one on the nextdoor pitch which was vacant.

A pleasant site. Facilities were a bit grim - not very inviting. Plenty of hot water though which was nice but shower and toilet rooms both felt like they could do with a good clean.

Local attractions

If you can drag yourself away from The Golden Lion, you’ll find loads of active options nearby. This area is said to be among the windiest in Cornwall, so grab your wetsuit and go to the Stithian Lakes Watersports Centre, just 100 yards away from the park and with sailing and canoeing as well as windsurfing hire and tuition. There’s also a climbing wall, trim trail, children’s play area, Wow balls and fishing available, or you can take a lakeside walk or a picnic if the day’s a bit too still for surfing. Relax on the beach or catch the waves there instead – north and south coast beaches are a 15 minute drive away. Hire a bike at the site and check out the local cycle trails or go mountain biking, or at a canter with the horse-riding available nearby. Golf, tennis and the attractions Poldark Mine and Flambards Theme Park are also within easy reach. Stithians Showground is just five minutes away and has regular events throughout the year, from the Stithian Show in July to the West of England Steam Engine Society with Steam Rally, the VW Owners Club and the YFC Country Fair in August, as well as events organised by local groups including horse shows and dog agility clubs.
