  • Grass pitches at a family-run site five minutes' drive from Polzeath
  • South West Coast Path 15 minutes' walk; Padstow 35 minutes' drive
  • Peaceful site with no large groups allowed; dogs welcome
Spectacular sunsets across Padstow Bay; swimming, castle building and learning to surf on Polzeath beach; and easy access to the South West Coast Path – what more does anyone want from their Cornish holiday? (Okay, perhaps the occasional cream tea… but that’s also easy to find round these parts.) And by staying at Lundynant Holidays, you can have all that at your fingertips. This intimate family-owned site, in a valley about a mile outside Polzeath (five minutes’ drive, or a 20-minute walk), has spacious grass pitches surrounded by lush vegetation. The owners pride themselves on having created a relaxing oasis, and in order to maintain the peaceful vibe, they have decided not to have an on-site bar. This is not an issue at all, as there are plenty of places to have a drink in Polzeath or in nearby Rock (10 minutes). Another measure they have taken to ensure everybody gets the R&R they need is not accepting groups or under-18s without their parents. They do welcome dogs, though (as long as they are kept on a lead while on site). Barbecues are also allowed, and you can source all your grillables at the well-stocked convenience store in Polzeath, at the butcher’s in Rock (where there’s also an excellent bakery) or in Wadebridge (15 minutes), which has a handful of large supermarkets. On-site facilities include a toilet block (with coin-operated showers) and a washing-up area with hot water, plus a launderette and a communal freezer.

What customers say

Peaceful, well-located campsite, spacious pitches near beach/village. Friendly, accommodating staff. Dated showers/toilets undergoing renovation, coin system sometimes inconvenient. Mostly quiet, though one noted family noise. Good value for many, some feel facilities are overpriced.

Liked Location, pitch was good size,

Disliked Facilities very poor, are being updated, seems to be as cheap as possible. 50p for showers, and at £42 per night it is very overpriced

Power optional grass campsite (large)

Liked Beautiful location, nice layout of the site, great access to the wonderful beach. Ideal stop for visiting the surrounding area and staff very friendly. Booked a large pitch due to campervan & awning but unfortunately the two pitches either side had encroached on our place so reported to office who promptly offered us a choice of other pitches, think maybe the pitches could be marked a little clearer.

Disliked Showers & toilets OK but need further work, plus people being ignorant and not using the outside shower to shower off sand before using the internal showers and therefore blocking the drains !

Liked Close to Polzeath and the town literally 5 mins walk so great for families as the beach is lovely and great to swim/surf etc. Check in is easy and showers themselves were good . MH ' s and Vans are at the bottom of the site mixed in with the tents which is nice but the description of a woody glade is a bit far fetched...good provision for water , washing up and waste..

Disliked The shower block is awful as it has signs on undergoing renovation. There is no main door an uncladded frame entrance and the building has a plastic corrugated roof with foam squeezed in it . Very untidy and out of kilter from the site which is lovely.

Local attractions

The South West Coast Path can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot (or five minutes’ drive). Follow it north to the distinctive twin headland known as The Rumps (where you can check out the ruins of an Iron Age hill fort) and beyond to Pentire Point. Here you might spot dolphins and seals, as well as catching distant views of Tintagel Castle. Thrill rides at Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (half an hour' drive) include a drop tower and a swinging pirate ship. If you don’t have the stomach for those (or if your kids don’t reach the height required), there are plenty of other attractions, such as gentle rollercoasters, indoor play areas and a petting zoo. Take a stroll along the harbour at Padstow (35 minutes), stopping for fish and chips with a view of the water. Then join a fishing trip with one of several harbour-based agencies, or a wildlife watching safari. Seals usually make an appearance, as do shags and cormorants.
