  • Quiet family-run site on a working farm a mile from Polperro
  • A 10-minute drive to Looe and Lantic Bay; 40 minutes to Eden Project
  • Dog-friendly pitches with stunning views of the Cornish coast
A big choice of bays and a prime spot on a working farm above the historic fishing village of Polperro… that’s what you get at Great Kellow Farm, a family-friendly, dog-friendly site with the gorgeous Cornwall countryside scenery all around and sea views from its location high above the village. That mix of coast and country is excellent for walkers too – there are plenty of places to stroll nearby, including the South West Coast Path, which can be picked up less than a mile away in Polperro. It’s a short stroll down a steep hill to the village for pubs, restaurants, cafés, a shop and a bakery. (Many guests walk down and get a taxi back up – speak to site staff and they can recommend a taxi company.) If you’re keen to see more of the Cornish coast (and you should be, because it’s pretty spectacular) you can also get to places like Looe, Polruan and Lantic Bay within 15 minutes’ drive, or cast your net further to get to Fowey, 40 minutes away. Turning your attention inland, meanwhile, days out might take you to Lanhydrock House, Adrenalin Quarry or the famed biomes of the Eden Project. Facilities on site are low key but well kept: there’s a smart modern bathroom block with hot showers, family bathrooms and baby changing, plus plenty of other handy things including multiple water points, a recycling facility and a freezer for ice packs.

Liked Lovely camp site on a working farm. Really friendly approachable owners, handy shop on site too selling their own produce

Beautiful part of Cornwall and walking distance to Polperro. Great for small caravans and tents as located down some narrow windy roads

Liked Quietness. Large wet rooms with shower, toilet and basin and kept very clean. Walking distance to Polperro, albeit down a steep hill. Sea view from our pitch.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely quiet site, owner met us on arrival and gave us a choice of pitches. Nice views, toilet blocks immaculate, friendly site. Short walk down a steep hill into Polperro big climb back up toad, it is possible to book a taxi back up to site. Handy for visiting Looe, Polruan and Falmouth. Site has small on site shop selling essentials, and also home killed meat from farmed stock on site, all of which is frozen. Would definitely come back

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Everything! Great shower block with hot water and no stupid press buttons, so you can have lovely, relaxing hot showers.
Friendly owners and amazing views from the fields.

Disliked Miserable, arrogant man from British Nordic Walking that thought he owned the place! Spoilt our time there, but that’s nothing to do with the place, the owners or the facilities, we were just unfortunate to be there when he, and his mistress, were.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location - on a working farm, but the owner still met me on arrival and gave some basic friendly directions.
The camp area had plenty of space and I could pick where to pitch. The farm and wild animals coupled with the views over the hills were beautiful.
The toilet/shower facilities were excellent, with freezer provided for ice packs.
The small farm shop was stocked with all the essentials, and open 8am-8pm.
A very short walk to the idillic village of Polperro topped off an excellent weekend break.

Disliked Minor point - the lane approaching the farm is steep and narrow. It was okay for me with a trailer tent, and clearly caravans could get up, but it would be challenging if you met a vehicle coming the other way.
Don’t come here if you never learnt to reverse competently! (But this could be said for all of Cornwall)

Route directions

If bringing a motorhome or caravan, don’t follow Google Maps/satnav but use the instructions below. Leave Looe, heading for Pelynt. In Pelynt, take the left turn by the church and follow sign for Lansallos. At the crossroads turn left and travel for about 3/4 mile, then turn left again at the staggered crossroads, looking out for the Great Kellow sign. After half a mile you’ll see another sign at a right-hand bend. Follow the road around two more bends and the Great Kellow Farm entrance is on your left. Please be aware that from the village of Pelynt you will be on country roads but there are multiple passing places.

Local attractions

So, the seaside has caught your eye. It’s no surprise, because there’s a lot of that around this area, and a real load of activities. Your nearest beach days include Looe (10 minutes’ drive), where there’s crabbing and sandcastle crafting to get stuck into, Talland Bay (10 minutes), a quieter place for swimming, and Lansallos beach (10 minutes) with some splendid coastal walks around it. Lantic Bay (10 minutes) is a nice way to round off your seaside adventures, as is joining in with the fishing in Fowey (40 minutes), before moving onto the big activity centre at Adrenalin Quarry (25 minutes). The big question there is ziplining, go-karting or the inflatable assault course? Feeling like some nature or wildlife too? Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary (15 minutes) is one of the closest spots to the site, while the Eden Project (40 minutes) has rainforest biomes further out. You might want to see Lanhydrock House and Garden (half an hour), a Victorian country house with some spectacular gardens, or the three-acre Hidden Valley Gardens (35 minutes) too.
