Family camping fun

  • Family-friendly Cornish holiday park on Trevose Head
  • A 15 minute-drive from Padstow and half an hour from Newquay
  • Sandy beaches nearby: Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay 20 minutes' walk
With its lighthouse, coastal vistas and fab beaches, Trevose Head is something like the Cornish coast in miniature. If you're looking for seaside capers with your nearest and dearest, Harlyn Sands could well be the place. The site is family-run and works hard to be a welcoming spot for you and your tribe. Younger kids are well served here, as there's a play area, TV and games rooms and kids' club to keep them happily occupied. In the evening, there are special events for all to enjoy (and a bar is on hand for mums and dads who fancy a nightcap after the show). Harlyn Sands is also a handy kind of place: there's a food shop on site should you need to stock up on essentials. Barbecues are allowed for alfresco dining, but takeaway options are also available if you'd rather skip the cooking. If you need a supermarket, take a 15-minute drive down the road to Padstow. The site makes no secret of the fact that it caters mostly to families (furry friends included), so teens need to be mindful that they don't stay out too late or disturb the peace.

What customers say

Great location near beautiful beaches, with friendly staff. Pitches are generally large, but facilities, like restrooms and showers, are dated. Popular with families for activities. Some found it crowded/noisy; pool access cost was a concern for a few.

Beach Field Zone 2 powered grass campsite

Liked Close proximity to the beach.
Some friendly staff offering a good start to our stay.

Disliked Inadequate toilet and shower facilities. Toilets a long way off from most of the camping pitches.
Someone on our pitch when we arrived which was sorted quickly but should not have ever happened.
Often no toilet roll or soap for hand washing. Queues for showering and a smell of sewage.
Rows and rows of campers with no landscaping.
Inaccurate advice about what food would be served. Told all food on menu available early in the day on Sunday, but actually no pizza in the evening due to Sunday roast being cooked.
Excessive rubbish overflowing at the bins which again are a very long way from pitches, encouraging people to drive o reach facilities.
Very expensive!

Liked The beach cove
The camping field near the beach looked lovely.

The main entertainment lady for the kids was amazing! - very friendly, very approachable. (I’m sorry I’ve forgotten her name).

Disliked Toilets were filthy - never cleaned - there was a poop stain on the same toilet for 4 days! And there was never any soap in dispensers or toilet roll / despite a staff cleaning sheet that was signed every 2 hours.

Showers were horrendous! Only 8 or 10 can’t remember exact number for the whole site and they are communal (not an issue for me but thought I’d mention)

The changing rooms for the pool were awful! - it stunk of stale wee! - there were no toilets in these, you can to walk back through the pool to the other side.
- there were no hooks in the changing rooms for the pool or the showers, so no where to put your clothes when changing, because obviously the floor wasn’t an option even for your bags as there was people obviously urinating on the floors.

There are two pools one for the non swimmers and a larger one for the others, the non swimmers pool was clearly for babies and toddlers and children who weren’t strong swimmers. - the amount of teenagers that used the wall separating them for beach balls games and bombing into it was ridiculous, it wasn’t monitored and the staff clearly didn’t care about the babies or toddlers that were constantly getting splashed at or pushed out the way - considering this was the only pool for the non swimmers you would think there would be some sort of policing involved. - I’m not normally one to moan about this but we had a 1 year old and a 4 year old and we only stayed in the pool for 30 mins because of this. (I asked the older kids nicely, so many times to please be careful of our toddlers and were ignored or sweared at. - there was only one life gaurd that I could see and one person by the slide on the other side of the pool.

There were only 4 mirrors above 4 sinks in the women’s toilets - NONE in the shower block.

There were staff smoking right at the entrance, and so many of them were just walking around in groups just chatting.

The family pitches by the caravans are so tightly squeezed together that people were unable to park their cars by the tents, we didn’t even open the windows to our tent because as soon as you did the caravan opposite can see straight through!

There were so many people letting their dogs off the leads and letting them poop wherever they wanted without a care in the world, the majority of these people were set up in the permanent spots, and again no one around monitoring this.

Liked The pitch was a good size, park was nice

Disliked Very run down/tired site, not the cleanest either. Pool was cold and the surrounding was carpet, not very nice to walk on. The site a daily itinerary sheet out with activities but the activities were not carried out. Staff didn’t seem to know much when asked. Not the most enthusiastic. Expensive pitches and had to pay on top for showers.

Liked You could come here and not leave site, great beach, a short walk from the site. Lively bar, friendly. All the facilites you need on site. Beautiful location, many beaches close by.

Disliked Sometimes the toilets were grubby, and smelt of drains in the showers, not the best for the price. Pool not included, even one visit would have been nice when you pay so much. Small pitches, no wide open field (it has a play park, but usually very busy).

Liked Ease of check in, size of pitch, access to facilities (toilets/showers etc), access to beach, entertainment in the evenings for children was fantastic, everything was very child friendly!

Disliked The day time kids club wasn’t very well organised (though we did only go on a Sunday morning so might’ve been a down day?), and the arcade although functioning was very dated. You have to pay per person for the swimming pool too which wasn’t an issue but could work out quite expensive as an extra cost if hoping to swim daily.

Liked Great site with a beautiful beach accessed easily through the site. My daughter loved the pool. The shop was well stocked and not too bad price wise and all the staff very friendly.

Disliked It's not a dislike but the toilet block is a little dated and there needs to be more showers that are more reliable a few times money got put in for it then to not work.

Liked We liked how close it was to the beach and there was a beautiful restaurant down the road. The site itself was clean around the pitches.

Disliked The toilet facilities where where dated with mirrors missing tiles missing, showers where not great poor water supply, damaged floor where water had gotten under the vinyl flooring, the bar was like a 90’s pub not modern. The worst thing about the site which is a reason why we would never recommend or go back…. This is a homophobic site where they assume your sexuality by name and we were advised that they don’t accept same sex couples due to it being a “family site” This kind of segregation and exclusion in 2025 is appalling, derogatory and disgusting 🤮 some staff members where cringe one in reception needs a new job.

Liked We stayed in ‘Beachfield’ area which was a massive field with sea view. Very short distance to a stunning beach. Nice playground for kids and food shops so can’t go hungry. Very close distance to other beaches too. Bar and entertainment.

Disliked Paying for showers- make sure you have plenty of 20p with you. Showers are shared - males with females.

No privacy in the caravan and tent pitches main area. Tents and camper vans very close to each other. Tiny road spaces. Too crowded for me.

Very large area but only one toilet facility. We were driving to the toilets especially in the morning.

Make sure to have a large water tank to collect drinking water which is supplied from the hose attached to the fence (Beachfield area). Sink facility is only in the main area.

Local attractions

Folk in search of some beach time have come to the right spot, as Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay can both be reached within 20 minutes on foot. Guarded by the RNLI between May and September, these splendid stretches of sand are hubs for snorklers and swimmers, and each has its own surf school - mighty handy if you want to learn to board in a safe environment. Padstow (15 minutes' drive) is a fishing town that's quite a draw for foodies seeking fresh, locally sourced products. Whether you fancy good old fish and chips or Michelin-starred dining, you can be pretty sure you'll find it here. Newquay, a major surf resort, is half an hour away. As well as the seafront, head here for buccaneering adventures at Pirate's Quest activity centre, or get up close and personal with marine life at the Blue Reef Aquarium. Just up the coast from Newquay (40 minutes from base) is Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, home to both fine scrumpy and cute cuddly farm animals. The South Cornwall coast is also within easy reach: drive 40 minutes down through the countryside if you fancy a trip to the Eden Project or St Austell.
