Harlyn sands

  • Family-friendly Cornish holiday park on Trevose Head
  • A 15 minute-drive from Padstow and half an hour from Newquay
  • Diner, bar and entertainment on site; sandy beaches 20 minutes' walk
With its lighthouse, stunning coastal walks and gorgeous sandy beaches, Trevose Head is something like the Cornish coast in miniature. If you're looking for seaside capers in this area with your nearest and dearest, Harlyn Sands Holiday Park could well be the place. Those coastal strolls and sandy beaches are within walking distance of this park, making it a top-notch spot for a seaside break. The site is family-run and works hard to be a welcoming spot for you and your tribe. Younger kids are well served here, as there's a play area, TV and games rooms and kids' club to keep them happily occupied. In the evening, there are special events for all to enjoy (and a bar is on hand for mums and dads who fancy a nightcap after the show). Harlyn Sands is also a handy kind of place: there's a food shop on site should you need to stock up on essentials. Barbecues are allowed for alfresco dining, but you may prefer to skip the cooking and head to The Diner for a sit-down meal, or pick up a takeaway from the site's chippy. If you need a supermarket, take a 15-minute drive down the road to Padstow. The site makes no secret of the fact that it caters mostly to families (furry friends included), so teens need to be mindful that they don't stay out too late or disturb the peace.

What customers say

This campsite's prime location is a short walk to the beach. Staff are generally friendly and helpful. Guests rave about family entertainment and amenities. Facilities are clean but can be dated. Pitch size, toilet/shower proximity, and extra fees for pool/Wi-Fi are common talking points. Some experienced noise and crowds.

Beach Field Zone 4 primitive grass campsite

Liked The camping field was extremely close to the beach and it was lovely. Only a short walk away.

Very child friendly. Good play park

Shop was well stocked.

Showers were good/clean/big and pressure was fab.

Disliked If camping in the camp field - its a long distance to the shower/toilet block as its all the way back by reception. With children this was a major negative. There was only that 1 block of facilities for the whole entire camping/static on site for everyone to use.

The pub was very very dated. Needed modernisation to match the park.

When we turned up I did not really feel welcomed. I did not get an hello or welcome. The staff in reception seemed quite rude/abrupt/stern. It seemed very old fashioned in a way with organisation. We never got a map to take away with us either which we didn't like.

Liked The campsite had access to the beach and views over the sea. We can see how outside of the holidays this could be a nice spot! Staff were really helpful and friendly.

Disliked There was only one toilet and shower block for the whole site. It is incredibly overcrowded with pitches crammed in next to each other. Items from the shop were also very expensive.
We found the site to be very noisy throughout the night and booked elsewhere.

Disliked Not very clean showers & toilet were very dirty someone had diarrhoea & just left to the next person to clean up in shower room no bins you had to walk quite far to get to them same with toilets very over crowded

Liked The whole holiday, from the moment we arrived at the park, we were greeted with friendly, professional staff who spoke us through the whole rules of the park and times of opening and closing of different activities on the park. Liked the one way system , so much easier to move around the park, showers were great and always very clean and tidy, infact all communal areas were clean and tidy and professionally looked after. All staff were kind and very helpful through out our stay, we had family that were there days before us but we put in a spot by them so we could enjoy our holiday together. The beach is beautiful and also kept well and only few min walk from site. The whole stay was perfect.

Disliked No wifi , the only wifi is in the club house but even that was temperamental. And in some cases it was good to get away from our phones, but for me having a disabled son who I'm an emergency contact for it was hard to keep contact without wifi.

Local attractions

Folk in search of some beach time have come to the right spot, as Harlyn Bay and Constantine Bay can both be reached within 20 minutes on foot. Guarded by the RNLI between May and September, these splendid stretches of sand are hubs for snorkellers and swimmers, and each has its own surf school – mighty handy if you want to learn to board in a safe environment. Padstow (15 minutes' drive) is a fishing town that's quite a draw for foodies seeking fresh, locally sourced products. Whether you fancy good old fish and chips or Michelin-starred dining, you can be pretty sure you'll find it here. Newquay, a major surf resort, is half an hour away. As well as the seafront, head here for buccaneering adventures at Pirate's Quest activity centre, or get up close and personal with marine life at the Blue Reef Aquarium. Just up the coast from Newquay (40 minutes from base) is Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, home to both fine scrumpy and cute cuddly farm animals. The South Cornwall coast is also within easy reach: drive 40 minutes down through the countryside if you fancy a trip to the Eden Project or St Austell.
