Wake up surrounded by the fields and valleys of Cornwall when you book a stay at Ashen Cross Farm Camping, five minutes’ drive from Looe and nicely tucked into a quiet corner of a working farm on the edge of the village of Pelynt. The neatly mown grass pitches are all level and come with firepits; they are easily spacious enough for your chairs, tables and barbecues. There is parking on site, as well as hot showers, tap water suitable for drinking and a washing-up area, but otherwise this is wild camping and you’re left to your own devices, so remember to pack torches. Luckily, there’s plenty to keep you both fed and entertained in the local area. Pelynt has a welcoming pub with a large beer garden and food served all day. Handy village amenities include a well-stocked store and a popular butchers selling locally reared produce. Walk to Looe (an hour’s stroll) along woodland and riverside paths, while Polperro is 55 minutes’ walk along quiet country lanes; both have a range of pubs and restaurants. The nearest beach is Talland Bay (five minutes’ drive), a handy spot for families with parking virtually on the beach. You can also drive to nearby Polruan (20 minutes) and catch the foot passenger ferry to lively Fowey to browse the shops and restaurants there.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The site is manageable size but with excellent layout and lots of space and privacy for each tent. Beautiful surroundings, good views and, more importantly a great place for the younger ones, feeding the chicken and playing with Spud, the farm dog. 🐶 😊. The owners were very friendly and offered valuable insights into the area. Sad to have only spent one night, so will come back for sure!
