What customers say

Western Meadows is a peaceful getaway with great hosts. Guests love the spotless, well-equipped safari tents and shepherd's huts with comfy beds, nice extras, and wood burners. Private hot tubs are a big plus. The quiet country location is perfect for exploring nearby areas and close to conveniences. Expect a warm welcome with cream teas and pre-heated hot tubs. Many call it a "gem" and want to return.

Safari tent

Liked What a gorgeous place! This safari tent is so beautiful and comfortable! It has absolutely everything you can possibly need and more and their hosts are so friendly and helpful.
We had freshly baked scones with cream and jam when we arrived, so kind and welcoming.
My kids absolutely loved the hot tub ✨
Although there’s no WiFi the signal is great in that area.

Safari tent

Liked Everything. Peaceful location but just a 10 minute drive to supermarket for supplies or into Launceston. We just spent 2 weeks at Western Meadows & loved it there.

Margaret & Colin great hosts. Cream teas were just lovely. Wood stocked up each day for wood fired range or hot tub. We did use the range to cook on a couple of times & also used the BBQ on the veranda. Local Indian restaurant offer delivery so did that one night.

Beds were so comfortable & there are hot water bottles for use of needed. Lots of towels & blankets. Plenty of USB lights so remember to take something to charge them with. There are some tea light candle holders so take a stock of tea lights too. There are some electric lamps around the living & kitchen area.

Great base for discovering both Cornwall & Devon.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Safari tent

Liked Absolutely everything!!!….I don’t say this lightly but Western Meadows is as close to perfect as you can get in my opinion.
If you want to escape from the hassle of ‘real life’ for a while this is the place to go.
Just sit and soak in the sights and sounds of the countryside.
The safari tent is stunning also, every home comfort you could wish for.
Immaculately clean and the wood burner is great and keeps the place toasty.
The hot tub is also spotless and warmed for our arrival.
There’s just 3 tents and tbh you wouldn’t really know they are there, and the owners, Colin and Margaret are lovely, friendly and helpful but also leave you do it.
We didn’t want to leave and will 100% return very soon.

Disliked Nothing to dislike!!!

Safari tent

Liked Amazing 2 night stay. Colin was fantastic. And super friendly. We hired out 2 lodges for 2 nights. To be close by to family for a surprise party. Took our baggage up to the lodge on his little tractor. Home made cream tea on arrival. Even let us check in early after a long 7 hour journey from seaham County Durham. This site is a little Gem of a place. And a little added extra of a hottub. Diddnt get to say goodbye to Colin. But I hope you see this review and accept us back in the future for a holiday. Thanks for your hospitality. The Guy and Roberts Family.

Safari tent

Liked Close to transport links but very rural, the birdsong and surroundings were beautiful. The safari tent was a great adventure for us and our 4 year old, the kids play area and field to run around in were great. Cooking on the wood fired stove and BBQ was great fun, and the tent was very cosy with lovely linens and thick quilts and pillows, we had a great stay will definitely be back.

Local attractions

Wild bird sightings are common around the site; buzzards, woodpeckers and sometimes – if you’re really quiet – kingfishers by the river. You can also fish for trout from the bridge – the river is fenced off, but access is at your own risk. There’s almost no light pollution either, so the stars in the night sky are very bright. Launceston Steam Railway (10 minutes’ drive) runs daily during the holiday season, and it’s well worth exploring Launceston Castle’s hilltop ruins while you’re in town. Railway buffs might also enjoy the heritage trains on Bodmin and Wenford Railway (30 minutes). The kids will nag to go to the beach, and there are several options for you. Widemouth Bay has long sandy beaches, and when the tide is out, Crakington Haven (both 30 minutes) is a treasure trove of rock pools and paddling. Both beaches are good for surfing, with life guards in attendance. Further afield are the tropical gardens and desert regions of the Eden Project (45 minutes) and the gorgeous, romantic Lost Gardens of Heligan (an hour).
