  • Peaceful and secluded site with spectacular Cornish views near Helston
  • A 10-minute drive to Porthleven pubs; South West Coast Path 15 minutes
  • Dog-friendly wildlife meadow with showers and a toilet
Lena May’s Meadow is a simple wild camping site with showers and a toilet, tucked away on a peaceful field close to Helston in Cornwall. In fact, it’s so peaceful here that the birdsong is deafening – and you’ll have plenty of space to yourselves as there are only a few pitches available. Access to the camping field is up a narrow, unmade lane, with free parking. Cars stay in the parking area, please, to avoid damage to the site. The owners provide wheelbarrows so you can transport all your gear easily, and they ask that you use headphones to listen to music to avoid noise impact on local wildlife (remember those birds?) and also so it doesn’t interfere with your fellow campers. There are plenty of areas to explore on site, or you can walk along old mining tracks – the Poldark Mine (20 minutes’ drive) is one of the few open for tours by the way. You have 360-degree views of Cornwall from the top of Tregonning Hill (10 minutes), and long-distance hikers can be yomping on the South West Coast Path in 15 minutes. A short drive takes you to Porthleven, with its fishing pier and beach, plus a well-known seafront pub and a whole range of takeaways. You can also pick up essentials from the handy stores in Helston (both 10 minutes).

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Absolutely fantastic back to nature campsite. We were looking for something with a wild feel but a few amenities for our first camping trip with our toddler and Lena May’s was just perfect. The pitches are a fab size and secluded and we loved the meadow. Fergus is super helpful and was great when we had some tent issues. Facilities are clean and shower is warm and powerful. We’ll definitely be back!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked This is a perfect back to nature campsite for those who want a break from the world rather than more of it. There's no road noise and on clear days we enjoyed a great view of the stars and even saw a comet shower whilst enjoying our campfire. The facilities are spotless and it's a perfect place to let young children roam free without worry (ours are 4 and 7). The host is really helpful, easy to contact and couldn't do more to make us feel welcome. The area is amazing too, nearby Helston town has lots going on, some fab walks or bike rides down to Porthleven as well as theme park and plenty of beaches to explore etc, we even managed a daytrip to the Scilly isles and Lands end which we also really enjoyed.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Wonderful location in a nature setting with lots of space to pitch and privacy offered by the tall meadow grass between. A great central location from which to explore. A very friendly welcome from Fergus. I had a great break and was very relaxed travelling alone to this beautiful spot. Spotlessly clean too.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The Meadow was absolutely perfect in every way.All of the 6 pitches are very well spaced out with high grass etc meaning you feel like you have your own personal space. While we were there for a week in June 24, there were no other campers - bliss for us but not great financially for the owners.Fergus was great and on hand if needed and they checked in a couple of times with us to see if we were ok/wanted more wood for the fire pit.The shower which is in a shed is great, as to is the compost toilet. These could get a little busy if all pitches were taken. There are a lot of walks right on your doorstep which take you through some lovely countryside. The meadow was in a great location too, with everywhere we visited within 10-20 mins away - St Ives being just over 20.There is a local pub in Breage and the landlord and his staff were really friendly - we had a roast on the Sunday which was amazing and could walk to and from it which took about 20 mins. There is also a big Tesco and Sainsburys in Helston for all your needs, which is about 10 min drive. All in all a wonderful stay and are going back next year.Thank you Fergus and Leeann

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked We travelled a grand total of 12 miles (from Penzance) to stay at Lena May’s Meadow. We wanted to give our 5yo and 1yo a bit of a bank holiday adventure whilst road-testing a new family tent. We couldn’t have picked a nicer site.

The meadow is at the end of a long farm track which means it’s set well back from any road. The paths and 6 pitches are cut into the meadow which means you’re surrounded by long grass, giving a real feel of privacy even when the other pitches are occupied. The facilities are basic - a composting toilet, a shower and a basin for washing up - but they were all in full working order and immaculately clean for our stay. The shower is a little cramped (I am 6’3”) but the pressure and temperature were both great.

A fire pit was provided and wood is available to purchase if necessary. Having a fire as the sun went down and the stars came out was a real treat.

Lena May’s Meadow is exactly what we look for in a campsite. You feel immersed in nature and extremely peaceful, and the lack of light pollution gives rise to some stunning stargazing.

The owners, Fergus and Leeann, are extremely pleasant and approachable should you need anything. Fergus met us on arrival to show us around, and you get the sense that they genuinely enjoy sharing their corner of paradise with people. We’ve already booked to go back next spring and we can’t wait.

From the manager: We are so happy to share our ''little corner of paradise'' with you. We are always wary of tall people like yourself in the shower but it definitely stood up to the challenge. Look forward to seeing you all again next Spring. Thank you.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Everything! Had a fab stay at Lena May’s. Loved that the pitches were really big and had lots of space between them, plus you could choose your own. Lots of privacy because the pitches are mowed out of a meadow, so high grass all around, plus lots of wildlife to see! Fergus was so helpful and was really easy to contact both via text if there was anything we needed. They were both so accommodating and friendly! Really great location, close enough to drive to lizard, lands end, north coast, etc. in less than an hour. Overall, a great place to stay!
