  • Pretty lakeside glampsite on the edge of the Lizard Heritage Coast
  • A 15-minute drive from Falmouth town and 25 minutes from Truro
  • Spring-fed lakes, rowing boats, rope swings and breakfast hampers
Leisurely stays by calm waters are the order of the day at Trecombe Lakes, a smart family-friendly glampsite amid woodland 15 minutes’ drive from Falmouth in Cornwall. Watery views can be had in almost every direction here, as there are seven – yes, seven – spring-fed lakes on site. Sticking around the park to get one’s bearings is a must: get into a peaceful frame of mind by wandering along the lakeside paths, clambering into a rowing boat for a gentle journey across the water or simply unwinding on a private deck while taking in the view. To appease more adventurous sorts, rope swings are set up for dive-bombing into the lakes – and it might be tricky to keep kids away from the natural woodland playground… When it’s time to venture further afield (you might have to threaten to leave the nippers behind), there’s loads to do nearby, starting with jaunts into Falmouth (15 minutes away) to explore the National Maritime Museum, laze about on beaches, wander the scenic marina, nab a berth on a sea safari or visit Henry VIII’s old pile, Pendennis Castle. It's hungry work, all this gadding about, but the site team are able to put together hampers full of locally sourced produce for guests, so order up a rake of Cornish cream teas or Cornish brekkies before arrival and get that much-needed energy boost sorted.

Local attractions

There’s a raft of activities and attractions to choose from in this part of the world. Within five minutes’ drive are Trebah Gardens and Glendurgan Gardens, while 10 minutes in the car will take you to Helford estuary (where you may just spot a pod of dolphins) or to Durgan or Maenporth to pick up the South West Coast Path. Maenprth is a cove where lazy days could also be had, but if you’re after adrenaline-fuelled pursuits BF Adventure, with its (deep breath…) zip wires, coasteering, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, abseiling, archery, watersports and bushcraft, is also 10 minutes away. All those Cornish cream teas got you raring to go? Take yourself off to the Kernow Adventure Park for wakeboarding (15 minutes) or zoom down the rides at Flambards Theme Park (20 minutes). For activities that won’t involve so much screaming, travel to Truro (25 minutes) and browse the Cornish capital's breweries, flea markets and museums. St Michael’s Mount (40 minutes) is another calm destination to dawdle towards – head here at low tide to walk over the sand towards the pretty little isle topped by a stately home.
