  • Peaceful adults-only North Cornwall retreat with Bodmin Moor views
  • Camel Trail 10 minutes’ drive and The Eden Project half an hour
  • Well-equipped chalet with luxury furnishings; horses graze the fields
Located in the scenic Cornwall National Landscape, Moorland Breeze is a cosy and comfortable couples’ hideaway specifically designed as a romantic getaway just for two. It’s on a 17-acre farm with its roots in medieval times and spectacular views across the Cornish countryside to Bodmin Moor; today the land is family-run as an equestrian smallholding. A smartly renovated 1950s chalet, Moorland Breeze is set down a long private drive on the edge of open moorland where cattle, sheep and horses roam freely. You’ll no doubt also soon get acquainted with Ronnie and Reggie, a pair of mischievous runner ducks who keep guests amused with their antics. There's private parking right next to the chalet, which has a large enclosed garden prettily planted with flowers and herbs, and is furnished with great attention to detail. It houses a well-equipped kitchen with all mod cons, a kingsize bed (linens supplied) in the spacious bedroom, and a modern ensuite with power shower. The living room is kept toasty warm thanks to a woodburner, and the glass-fronted summer room has views over the fields – where horses graze – and surrounding countryside. The historic village of Blisland (five minutes’ drive) has a well-stocked shop and a traditional pub selling local beers and ciders; there are also walks and cycle rides nearby, taking you up onto Bodmin Moor or to North Cornwall’s stunning coastline.

Local attractions

While hiding away in your peaceful retreat is tempting, there is much to do and see in North Cornwall. There are dramatic clifftop walks on the South West Coast Path (half an hour’s drive), and you can hike or bike sections of the long-distance Camel Trail, which follows a former railway line between Wenford Bridge (10 minutes) and the lively coastal resort of Padstow (45 minutes). If you’re hungry after all that exercise, Padstow is renowned as a gourmet hub where you can pick up fresh seafood from the fishing harbour to cook for supper. Alternatively, grab a Cornish pasty, indulge in a cream tea, or push the boat out and bag a delicious supper in a tiptop restaurant. Cornwall is the home to the largest captive rainforest in the world. The Eden Project (half an hour) houses several geodesic greenhouses holding thousands of rare plants and trees from rainforest and temperate zones. If you’re keen on gardening and sustainability, be sure to visit the gorgeous Lost Gardens of Heligan (40 minutes), where ancient habitats have been painstakingly restored.
