  • Rural family-run site on a farm on the edge of Bodmin Moor
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Lanhydrock House and Restormel Castle
  • Playing field, nature trail and animals to feed on site
Sort yourself a serene stay in Cornwall at Gwel-an-Nans Farm, a site in a secluded spot south west of Bodmin Moor and less than a 15-minute drive from the town of the same name. Pull up and you’ll get a sunny welcome from Gerald and Sheila, the couple who run this two and a half-acre park in the middle of a bigger animal-filled farm. These friendly folk are joined by two equally friendly donkeys who are always happy to meet any small explorers you're bringing along – give them a wave while running off to the separate enclosed field for games of football and bike riding. This is a spectacular park for thrillseeking as well as lazing about, with the moor right outside the entrance for mountain biking, and off-road paths over in Cardinham Woods less than a 10-minute drive away. Keen freewheelers can take on the famed Bodmin Beast as well as a couple of other tricky red-grade trails. Along with pedalling on the 18-mile Camel Trail, family-friendly touring on two wheels is to be had at the National Trust’s Lanhydrock House estate less than a 10-minute drive. And if you’d rather roam, ask Gerald and Sheila about the two-mile nature trail leading down to a hidden wooded valley back on site or set off on a circular saunter around the round walls of Restormel Castle 15 minutes’ drive... Reckon you’ll be famished on your return? Supermarkets, restaurants and pubs are over in Bodmin – check out local sights like the jail, regimental museum and obelisk while you’re in the area too.

What customers say

A peaceful, well-kept campsite with spacious sites & friendly owners. Clean facilities, especially hot showers. Great for relaxing, nature, and walks. Optional pasties & fire pits are a hit. Some found limited showers/toilets when busy, and narrow approach roads.

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely small quiet place. The bench with every pitch was great! We received a very friendly welcome, the coffee served at the place was an extra bonus, and my daughter loved the milkshakes!
Only one shower and toilet for ladies and one for men, but because the place is so small it wasn't an issue at all, and it was spotless clean.
My daughter loved the donkeys, we fed them every morning!

Disliked I only had one issue, I booked the place because of how many trees were there, I was hoping we will get some shade. The tent pitch area is on the field next to the donkeys, the sun hits the area from about 12 all day. Where we were they was a tree, it gave some shade until noon but after it's full sun. On a rainy or cold day it's a bonus but it was a hot weekend, we tried to place the tent to give us some shade during the day. But this not an issue that can be fox really, it was just my personal issue, I can't stay out on the sun for too long.

Power optional cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The wonderful peaceful surroundings and the warm and friendly staff. We stayed for 10 days in July 2025 the weather was good for us . You can also order homemade pastries from Norma just let her know the day before and she will have them ready very nice they are too , she does have other food and drinks to offer as well and very reasonably priced. We will definitely go back again. Oh and the pitches are a good size at the time we went it was £23 a night and electric meter @ 0.50p per unit for the whole time we was there it cost £6 . So on the whole very good price of the area , which was in easy reach of most popular attractions. The lanes near the site are mostly Singh lane but with lots of passing places. And if you like donkey’s there are two on site and love a carrot or apple if one’s going spare

Disliked It wasn’t a problem for us as site was quiet but if it was full they only have one shower and one toilet in each mens and ladies and one disabled toilet with a hand basin in same for washing up facilities only one sink but if you have your own facilities on board is won’t be and issue.

Power optional cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Everything.

The site as a whole is well excellently maintained. Showers, toilets and kitchen facilities are clean. The shower has decent water pressure and is not governed by a timer.

Pitches are large with plenty of space between them.

Norma and Casey 🐾 are perfect hosts, and often check-in to make sure all is OK. Casey particularly likes a stroke once in a while.

Norma makes a variety of pasties (wich can be ordered) and hot cafe style drinks are available (menu at site reception)

This is our 3rd break, with a 4th already booked and extended for 2025.

If you like to take longs walks, Cardinham Woods is within a 10 minute walk, this is the site for you. There is also a fabulous little cafe in the woods too.

If you are looking to explore Cornwall, this is a great site to be based on. The A30 is a short drive from the site and connects you with Newquay (30 minute drive) Truro (25m) and Lands End (1h20m) to name a few.

We love it, our dogs love it. I hope you do too!

Liked Very friendly owners, beautiful campsite. My kids loved the donkeys. Lovely facilities including the little shack with food and hiring of the fire pits.

Disliked Children not allowed to play by their tent, had to use a different field.

Local attractions

Cornwall’s Eden Project is 25 minutes from the site for perusing plants from different environments and climates under two biomes set in an old china clay pit; if you’re into your landscaping, the pristine nature around Pencarrow House (also 25 minutes away) and the 200 acres of outdoor space at The Lost Gardens of Heligan (45 minutes) are well worth a look too. Seeking surf? The waves of Watergate Bay, Fistral beach and Holywell Bay are all 40 minutes from the site if you’ve a wetsuit and board to hand, while kayak rental can be had at Polkerris beach 35 minutes' drive away. Sort other watersports inland at Siblyback Lake (half an hour), where raft building, paddleboarding and fishing are all available. Golitha Falls (20 minutes from the site) is on the way too.
