Pitching up in a private wildlife reserve – how does that sound? For a true ‘immersing yourselves in nature’ experience, head to Peacocks Farm Campsite. This West Sussex site is all about the wildlife, with pitches mown into the long grass but the rest left to the wildflowers and other plants. It’s a wonderful spot for some downtime in unspoiled rural surroundings. It’s a very laidback setup here – you’ll be able to wander around at your leisure and pick any suitable secluded spot for your pitch. Each one has its own character – some have walking access only and are suitable for hammocks or tents, while others have vehicle access. Kids and dogs are welcome, and you’ll be allowed to set your pitch up with camping furniture, barbecues and firepits (as long as you're careful not to scorch the surroundings). Fittingly for a nature reserve, facilities here have been kept to a minimum. You’ll have access to toilets, showers and drinking water though, and there are recycling facilities (although you will be asked to take general waste away with you). Supermarket supplies can be picked up 10 minutes’ drive away in Storrington, but pub meals and drinks are closer to home – the nearest pub is a mile away in the village of Thakeham. Feel free to forage for fruit on site as well. This is a place that’s great for some time spent simply soaking up the setting, but also one that makes a fine base for various outings. The edge of the South Downs National Park is a couple of miles away, so there are walks and bike rides galore to try out. Castles, canoeing and beach days can also be on the schedule here.

Liked So good we came back for more! Two weekends in a row and we love this place! Despite the inclement weather, we found a cute area deep under the tree canopy but also close to the facilities. A fire pit, some twinkly lights and bunting made this birthday weekend special. Can’t wait for next season!

Liked Lovely nature with lots of birds, wild flowers and native shrubs. Showers and toilets basic but clean and worked well. Very quiet (apart from planes overhead but they stopped overnight). Dark enough to see a fantastic view of the stars.

Disliked Didn't spot there were two padlocks on the gate to get in as I arrived in the dark but worked it out in the end :) Planes going to Gatwick noisy during the day.

Liked Great toilet and shower facilities. Very private pitches and huge grounds to explore with kids. Found loads of branches for den building in the forest parts too

Liked small site, like wild camping but with a loo and shower.

Disliked the track was very bumpy and no where to turn around if you missed a good spot, so the washing up sink was too close to the mens loo

The site is very unique with lots of cute and very private areas. Really well looked after, was a joy to be in nature with great facilities. Hope we can come back next year. Liked everything, there is so many pitches to choose from you feel like your alone. Perfect for a wind down get away. The facilities are some of the nicest i have ever seen on a campsite. Owner very responsive to any question's. i can’t wait to go back
