  • Littlehampton five minutes' drive and Bognor Regis 10 minutes
  • A 20-minute stroll from dog-friendly Climping beach
Swathes of spectacular West Sussex scenery are what guests pitch up among at Alison’s Woodpecker Camping Field, set in loads of space between Bognor Regis and Littlehampton. Run by Alison, this is a welcoming site in the village of Climping. It's just behind Climping Street, which provides a 20-minute walk to the sea. Arundel Castle is a 10-minute drive from the site, and the southern edge of the South Downs National Park is 15 minutes’ drive away. Alison’s Woodpecker Camping Field is also beside the A259, making it handy for accessing other beach days on the south coast as well as for visiting two local pubs: the closest pub is five minutes’ walk away for pub food and real ales. Barbecues are also allowed on pitches (no open fires, please). The pitches are in fields enclosed by high hedges. Amenities include two family shower rooms with underfloor heating, two gas-powered showers, two flushing toilets and five chemical toilets. There's also a washing-up room with two sinks, a fridge, freezer, microwave, electric kettle and plugs for your hairdryer or mobile phone charger. If you fancy it, Alison can arrange for you to join Sarah, a professional museum curator, historian and antiques expert, on an antiques and vintage foraging experience in Arundel, Petworth or Lewes.

South field powered grass campsite

Liked Good location and peaceful. Facilities basic but clean. Plenty of space on pitch

Disliked Chemical disposal right on ther side of site...not really an issue though

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Robert,
thank you for your review,
I am a bit confused by your dislike of the chemical disposal being on the side of the site. It is located at the Northernmost end of the site by the road, near the gate, far away from any pitches and surrounded by a wooden fence. No one can see the tank, only the fence until you are close to it to be able to discharge your waste. It is positioned so as to be easy to access by any motorhome or caravan and needs to be on the actual site. Also this location ensures that the large tanker which comes to regularly empty it can reverse safely onto the site to access it as well.
Not sure where you would recommend that I move it to if such a relocation were possible ??
I also note that you think this is "not really an issue" so why mention it without a positive observation of where it could be placed instead ?
kind regards,
Alison

Primitive grass campsite

Liked The whole stay. Position is perfect for catching the Coastliner bus. The space is generous for a campervan, and I like the close proximity of the portaloos. The showers are fine and felt clean and hygienic. Also appreciated the fridge and other amenities although not needed. The blackberries were lovely for breakfast each morning!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Mown grassy pitches surrounded by wild flowers, field surrounded by hedges and trees. Lots of birds and birdsong, we even spotted a woodpecker. Ease of access to and from site. Good communication via email prior to arriving, Alison was very helpful and promptly answered my queries.
Quiet site with families in another part of the field.
Good clean facilities well maintained

Disliked Some noise from the A259, which cant be helped, it didnt disturb us

South field powered grass campsite

Liked Level site
Good location for touring West Sussex

Disliked Toilet portacabins and the two shower rooms were not regularly cleaned

Campsite entrance is littered with a broken tent, old portacabin and plastic drums.

The kitchen area needs a good cleaning.

Local attractions

The closest beach is Climping, a 20-minute walk or a few minutes’ drive from the site. It’s a top spot for families for its shallow swimming, and is also popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, with grass areas for setting up. Also within easy reach is Littlehampton (five minutes’ drive or 10 by the Coastliner bus), home to the family-friendly East beach and its free to use barbecues. Just beside the beach is Harbour Park, an amusement and funfair centre with free entry, rides and indoor play; for a quieter time, hire a bike for a ride along the promenade. If you’re around in summer, a Littlehampton must-do is the ferry ride over to West beach, a Local Nature Reserve. Next up, Bognor Regis (10 minutes’ drive or 25 by bus), for a day at the Marine Park Gardens and boating on the lake, riding the miniature railway, putting on the 18-hole green and having a picnic under the trees. (There are beaches here too – do make time for some sandy hours as well…). Inland, Arundel is 10 minutes’ drive from the site and Amberley 15.
