  • Peaceful family-friendly site set in ancient West Sussex woodland
  • Sheffield Park five minutes’ drive; Millennium Seed Bank 20 minutes
  • Firepits available; solar-powered showers; well-behaved dogs welcome
Tucked into the South Downs in the middle of West Sussex, Kitts Campsite is peaceful and family friendly, offering three camping meadows surrounded by 100s of acres of woodland (well-behaved dogs will enjoy accompanying you on walks through the trees) in the spectacular High Weald National Landscape. Explore the gorgeous Downs with a ride on the Bluebell Railway from Sheffield Park Station, or take time to explore the glorious lakeside gardens and historic estate at Grade 1-listed Sheffield Park (both five minutes’ drive away). The shops and restaurants of Haywards Heath are 10 minutes’ drive away, and the lovely gardens and lakeside walks of Sheffield Park are five minutes away by car. Alternatively, head for the country pub about 10 minutes’ walk away through the ancient woodland. This may be a back-to-basics site, but there are enough facilities to keep everyone cheerful – the Sussex-timber field barn has flushing toilets, solar-powered showers and an undercover washing-up area. Every pitch has a firepit and there’s a wood-delivery service every evening.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site was relaxing & peaceful. Firepits available and plenty of level or slightly sloping areas with freedom to choose where to pitch. Plenty of shelter from trees & hedges and some wide open spaces too. Hot water, washing up area, toilets & showers all clean & quite adequate and a central seating area. Easy footpath access for dog walking & a short walk to the pub and a big map on the wall to show how to access local amenities. I was there midweek, but it looks like there are more facilities available at the weekends such as a pizza van & pop up coffee. No warden available when I arrived, but I had a call from Loveabell before I arrived, so knew what to do.

Disliked Nothing. this is a great site, but I'd like it better if everyone cleaned the sink of food scraps after washing up as requested. They had even supplied bins for food waste.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked Large pitches, plenty of room. In 4 days I heard the noise of traffic twice, a noisy motorbike about 5pm but apart from that very quiet. Showers were adequate, plenty of room so I could use my stool in them which I need due to bad leg. Toilets where clean and a covered washing up area.

Disliked Rubbish bins too far down the track and aircraft noise at night up until about 1am.

From the manager: I'm sorry you found your stay at Kitts so bad that you gave such a low rating. We cannot do anything about the planes, but we don't tend to get any complaints about them usually. The bins are down the track because Biffa cannot get any closer and also we don't want to encourage rats near the actual camping area. It is a 2 minute walk from our washrooms and can easily be accessed when you exit the site in your vehicle.

Please can you let me know why the customer service was 1/10? It would really help us to understand how we can improve?

Disliked Aircraft noise!

Way, way, way too much of it, like camping on the runway at Gatwick.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked Friendly welcome, clean showers & toilets. We really enjoyed walking to the local pub through the woods. Loved the pizza truck that came to site on the Friday night - great idea! We also had a good experience at the local brewery which was also within walking distance.

Disliked Just a minor thing but there was no grill for cooking food on the fire pit. As disposable bbqs are not allowed I expected these to be provided.
