Peaceful site in the sussex weald

  • Quiet family-friendly site on a smallholding in the High Weald
  • Ardingly Reservoir 15 minutes’ drive; Brighton half an hour
  • Firepits, communal kitchen and picnic benches; freshly laid eggs sold
Looking for a site where you can take long strolls with your dog and maybe let the kids interact with farmyard animals? Deaks Acres, a five-minute drive from the West Sussex village of Cuckfield, might just be the place for you. Just on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this family-friendly site is part of a smallholding with goats, horses and geese, so there’s always a furry (or feathered) creature nearby for your kids to pet or help feed. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead. Each pitch has its own firepit for cosy campfire evenings; if you’re in the mood for making new friends, there's also an area around a large bonfire for guests to gather and socialise. For a fabulous breakfast you surely can't beat scrambled eggs made with eggs from the resident hens. The communal field kitchen is the place to cook these – it's also got a barbecue and a washing up area. For other provisions, the petrol station just across the roundabout on the A272 (10 minutes’ walk) has a small shop, and Haywards Heath (five minutes’ drive) has several supermarkets. Of course, you might opt for a cooked meal from a traditional pub, of which there are several in Cuckfield. There are heaps of walks and bridleways to explore directly from the site, or you can drive to Ardingly Reservoir (15 minutes) for a waterside trail, an activity centre with paddleboards and kayaks, and a dog park you can hire by the half-hour to let your canine buddy run free. For a day at the beach, Brighton is a half hour’s drive away.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Excellent pop-up campsite. Toilets and showers are clean, there's plenty of space around the pitches, and the kitchen facilities are great. More in the games area than expected, including a big swing, badminton, swing ball, giant connect four and a small football goal. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and let the kids help out feeding the animals.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Beautiful quiet site with clean facilities, friendly farm animals, and great activity options nearby - walks, vineyards, orchards, etc. The campsite owners are lovely and helpful! Also great to have the firepit and picnic bench with each pitch.

Disliked There could be more toilets - when one wasn't working, it only left one for everyone on the site.

Liked We love this place….our second visit in 6 weeks. This time we took the dog! Great little campsite….Pitches well spaced out so you don’t feel on top of each other. Max 10 pitches too. Hosts very friendly. Lovely walks from campsite. Wish it was open longer!! Hope to come back for a future visit sometime!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The best of the best family campsites. Really lovely family who run / own the farm / campsite, very welcoming and accommodating. All the farm animals are accessible and people friendly. The site is enclosed and safe place for children. There are lots of fun things in the play area for the kids to play with. The facilities are well maintained and clean. Two families were on their 3rd consecutive visit to the campsite and I totally understand why they keep returning. I've recommended this campsite to all my friends who have young children.
You won't be disappointed if you choose to camp at Deaks Acres

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The camping field setup was perfect. The toilet/shower block small but luxurious for a campsite this size. The whole place felt like it was set up by experienced campers.

The location is close to public rights of way, bridlepaths, and quiet country lanes.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely quiet site with good grounds. The owners are friendly and helpful too and took the time to check in and chat. Loved the animals on the farm which were so lovely to see and they have the world's friendliest sheep! Lots of garden games, rope swing chair and things like a covered outdoor cooking/washing up station, BBQs, chairs and gazebos which are handy!

Disliked Some confusion over the toilet facilities as we couldn't see signs and struggled finding them ourselves but this was partly due to arriving later in the evening and not having chance to ask. Decent facilities though!
