Bring on the beaches, the bike rides and the barbecues with a stay at Berry Camping, a family-run West Sussex farm site 15 minutes’ drive south of Chichester and a couple of miles from the coast. This is a particularly fine spot for those that would like their holiday to involve as little driving as possible – the farm’s location means you can walk or cycle to the likes of Bracklesham Bay, Medmerry and the ever-popular West Wittering and East Wittering. Chichester Marina, Pagham Harbour nature reserve and Dell Quay are all nearby too, so as long as you’ve got a good set of wheels or pair of shoes you should be sorted for plenty of coastal days out. Mornings and evenings in should be just as good, too – there are splendid views from the farm, particularly at dawn and dusk. It’s all very peaceful on site: spacious pitches are in a three-acre tree-lined field, with a water supply, washing-up area and clean chemical toilets, plus recycling and composting areas to minimise the eco impact. (It’s an off-grid site too, so you’ll need to bring car/portable chargers if you’ll need electricity, and a torch to help you find your way around.) This being a farm, you’ll be sharing the space with a gaggle of geese, hens and ducks; their eggs can be purchased on site, along with other fresh produce, via a preorder menu that’ll be available upon arrival. Barbecues are allowed on site, and there’s a central campfire area where you can gather with others to spend the evening gazing into the flames. This is a family-friendly site, so quiet is requested after 10pm, with a strict silence rule from 11pm onwards.
