  • Rural glamping in a cabin with its own six-acre field and trout pond
  • A 15-minute drive to the Eurostar at Ashford; 30 to Camber Sands
  • Bed linen, towels, fridge, barbecue and fishing rod all provided
Get your glamping hol on the right track with a stint at The Railway Carriage in Kent... this kitted-out cabin big enough for two is a top getaway spot for couples seeking an escape in peaceful surrounds. The activities here are all about serenity as well, with a well-stocked trout pond so you can angle for dinner (a rod’s provided and one fish per stay’s included). You can cook up the catch on the site’s gas barbecue or in the cabin kitchenette, picking up additional eats at the butcher’s or village shop five minutes’ drive away in Woodchurch. Other meals can be had at a village pub under a 20-minute walk via local footpaths; wander up to the Woodchurch Windmill (25 minutes on foot) for fab views over the Walland Marsh out to the English Channel while you're at it. For further local roams, the Woodchurch Village Life Museum on Susan's Hill is 30 minutes away. Back in The Railway Carriage’s six-acre field overlooking farmland, there's space aplenty for spreading out under the sun. Chilly? Indoor heating and a firepit are on hand to keep you warm on cooler nights and the cabin next door has a private eco-friendly shower and toilet. As well as including the amenities you need for a weekend or longer, this site is in a cracking locale. It’s about 20 minutes by car from the M20’s Junction 19, so it’s easy to reach from Ashford International railway station if you fancy venturing over to France for a day or two.

Local attractions

On the edges of High Weald Area of Natural Beauty, The Railway Carriage is in a top position for walks in the wilderness; you can see the limestone landscape at its best on a drive to Wellington Rocks (45 minutes away in the car). Still outdoors but closer to home, the ornate National Trust-owned Sissinghurst Castle Gardens are 20 minutes’ drive, while the rosebeds and theatre of actress Ellen Terry’s 16th-century home Smallhythe Place are reachable in 15. For organised activities nearer to the site, the South of England Rare Breeds Centre is 10 minutes for farmyard animal encounters both indoors and outdoors and the historical Kent & East Sussex Railway takes around 15 minutes to get to. The Kent Downs are in the opposite direction for ambles in another Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25 minutes away by car), while the dunes of Camber Sands are around the same distance for cavorting at the coast...
