  • Quiet, family-run site in the Kent countryside near Lamberhurst
  • Five minutes' drive to Bewl Water or Scotney Castle
  • Playground on site, plus plenty of green space to relax in
Cedar Gables Camping is a family-run site in the Kent countryside. There are no noisy late-night get-togethers here, as it’s a small, quiet site where noise is banned after 11pm. Instead, the hallmarks are plenty of green space where families can unwind, plus excellent sunsets and a playground. There are plenty of attractions accessible within a five-minute drive of the site (or a walk down a public footpath). Perhaps start by taking the five-minute drive to Scotney Castle, a National Trust site with a 14th-century moated castle and Victorian country mansion. The conifers and cycling, walking and mountain biking trails of the Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest are also within a five-minute drive. For cycling (including bicycle hire), boating and other activities, Bewl Water is a five-minute drive or a 20-minute walk away. For a trip into town, consider Royal Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, both 25 minutes’ drive away, or the seaside towns of Hastings and Bexhill, a 40- to 45-minute drive away. There are many scenic villages within driving distance of the site too.

Cedar Gables offers clean facilities, spacious sites, and helpful owners. It's praised for its location near Bewl Water and Bedgebury Forest. Downsides include noise from the nearby A21, especially at night, and the site being on a slope.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site is small which is nice and you can pick your pitch (depending on what is free - we arrived when it was practically empty so got our pick!) staff are so friendly and helpful and always available. The toilets and showers are always clean and there is hot water! The 50p shower situation is great as you don’t have to spend the whole time pressing those awful concussion taps. The shower pressure is good, water is hot and there is decent space to get changed after. There is also a wooden mat to use so you don’t get covered in grass. It’s a great site and we will definitely come back! We used it as a base for Bewl Water which is 5 mins drive away.

Disliked The only thing is the hairdryer is a bit rubbish but I always bring my own anyway! Road noise too but that can’t be helped because of where it is!

Liked Everything. Camp site was clean and well maintained. Showers were hot and the play area for the kids whilst small allowed them to make friends whilst they waited which lead to more fun and games. Bewl water down the road, a day trip in its own right and Bedgebury park/wood is awesome! Don’t get hung up on the road noise comments in others reviews, it’s absolutely fine.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked For my first time camping with the family, it was a big enough space with enough amenities for the kids to enjoy. The host was really helpful also with our electric hookup. It was an easy place to find and very well located.

Disliked The shower situation could be better. There could be a family changing room/ shower which would have been better for us all.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great location, and quiet camp site. Friendly staff, clean facilities and a play area so our toddlers loved it. We took their bikes as well as plenty of space to have a run around. Close to Bewl water and a little drive to camber sands. Lots to do. Will definitely go back.

Disliked Didn’t dislike anything. Noticed some complaints about the road noise in past reviews, it is a busier road, but didn’t keep us up in the night, and not really that noticeable once you get used to it so not an issue for us.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The whole site was clean, including showers, toilets and kitchen area. Good size pitches at a good price. Friendly family run campsite and great for families looking for a small site.

Disliked It's right near the A21 which is great for getting to places but it can be noisy mid week during early mornings. This is obviously not the campsites fault but some people may not like it.

Liked Bathrooms very clean couldn’t fault, it was also nice that their was takeaway options in the fact that the Thai van came when we were there.

Disliked A few solar lights at night would be nice and the road was very noisy but that is just an external fault.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We loved this campsite. Nice friendly reception from the owner who showed us where everything was.
The loos/showers were nice and clean, and no shortage of loo paper and soap etc.
The washing-up stations were clean and well kept, with washing up liquid and blue paper supplied. Everything was well labelled such as the bins and recycling, and the site felt friendly and safe for me and my son.
He enjoyed the little play park and we had a lovely stay!

Disliked Nothing!

Liked Everything was fine, but honestly, it was too noisy—the campsite is right next to the main road, so even at night, it feels like you're sleeping next to a highway, which wasn't ideal since we came to unwind; however, we highly recommend it for its cleanliness and hospitality.

Local attractions

This is an excellent site for proximity to attractions: an easy five-minute drive will get you to the moated castle, Victorian mansion and gardens at Scotney Castle, the Go Ape course and walking/cycling trails of Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest or the aqua park, fishing and boating at Bewl Water. Looking just very slightly further afield, you could also up the castle count with trips to Bodiam Castle (15 minutes) and the gorgeous Sissinghurst Castle Garden (25 minutes) or flex that National Trust pass a bit more with visits to Bateman’s (20 minutes) and Winston Churchill’s former home Chartwell (40 minutes). Battle (40 minutes), the site of the Battle of Hastings, is another excellent historic location to visit nearby. And how about a day at the coast? Head to Hastings (45 minutes) to ride the East Hill Cliff Railway, get arty at Hastings Contemporary and eat fresh seafood, or take your bucket and spade to the sandy stretch at Camber Sands (45 minutes).
