  • Eco-friendly and family-run site in the Weald of Kent
  • A 20-minute drive to Bodiam Castle; 35 minutes to Camber Sands
  • Kitchen, firepit and barbecues on site; pubs within walking distance
Looking for a place that ranks high for family time, eco-friendly values and has plenty of relaxing vibes away from the well-trodden Kent paths? 60 miles from London, Dingle St Glamping is your guy. This family-run glamping site is two miles from Benenden in the gorgeous Weald of Kent. It’s surrounded by fields of sheep and apple orchards, and the farm is well away from road noise. Seeking lots of walks and bike rides? Good news – there are lots of footpaths and bike rides from the site or Hemsted Forest and Angley Wood 15 minutes’ drive away. Pubs? There are two (including a 13th-century inn) within half an hour’s walk of the site and a further pub 55 minutes’ walk away. Plus, farm shops within 15 minutes’ drive of the site sell more tasty local produce. Tick off the pretty local towns too, which include Rye (25 minutes’ drive), Cranbrook (10 minutes) and Tenterden (15 minutes), or make your way to Camber Sands (35 minutes) for a dip or two. Horse rides can be tracked down at the local horse-riding centre (10 minutes). The family-run Dingle St Glamping has composting loos, a hot shower, kitchen and barbecues, as well as a football pitch mown into the grass. There’s a communal field dedicated to social time; it has a camp kitchen (with washing-up facilities, a gas hob, cooking pan and utensils and crockery and cutlery), a covered outdoor seating area with a large firepit and a large World War II army tent and hay bales. The site can arrange yoga, bushcraft, fitness, silent disco and catering sessions for those who book the whole site out.

Local attractions

Skip around the spiral staircases and old battlements at Bodiam Castle (20 minutes’ drive), then pick up a vessel from Bodiam Boating Station (10 minutes), where there are paddleboards, kayak or boats for hire on the river Rother. Bewl Water (25 minutes) has an inflatable water park and boat hire for more water action. However, if it’s beaches you’re after, Camber Sands (35 minutes) has a long and gorgeous sandy beach with sand dunes and frequent kite surfers, while Pett Level beach (40 minutes) is a less-busy, peaceful destination with sand at low tide. What else? Skimming pebbles or purchasing fish fresh from the fleet in Hastings (40 minutes), before catching the funicular up the cliffs? Visiting gardens like Great Dixter House & Gardens (15 minutes) or Sissinghurst Castle Garden (15 minutes)? Wine-tasting at vineyards like Chapel Down Tenterden Vineyard Park (15 minutes) and Biddenden Vineyards (15 minutes)? Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (20 minutes) has lots of walks, playgrounds, bike trails and Go Ape.
