Pitches

  • Peaceful Kent pitches 15 minutes' drive from Bewl Water
  • Well-maintained grounds near the High Weald National Landscape
  • Bar and restaurant with homemade food; fishing for an additional fee
Fishing, homemade food and a location just outside of the High Weald National Landscape? If those three points have you nodding yes, you'll surely be pleased with the pitches at Pittlands Lakes. The well-maintained grounds here play host to a friendly bar and restaurant, multiple fishing lakes, a playground and a dog-walking area. At this site, it doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced angler or looking to give your kids their first introduction to fishing. As well as having excellent lakes for experienced folks, there is an additional lake suitable for kids and beginners; a short pole or net can also be hired directly from the site. Just take note that all fishing activities are subject to an additional fee. Fishing can be hungry work, so it's also convenient that the on-site bar-restaurant serves tasty homemade food, including full English breakfasts and Sunday roasts. Its outdoor dining area has been set up to overlook the lakes, so you'll always have a scenic spot to tuck into some food on bright days. If you need anything else – snacks perhaps – there are shops and restaurants in Marden and Paddock Wood, which are both within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. Down south is the High Weald National Landscape and stunning locations like Bewl Water and Scotney Castle (both of these are within 15 minutes’ drive of the site). The coast, including Hastings, is a 50-minute drive away from base.

What customers say

This tidy, peaceful spot has spacious sites & praised staff. Great for anglers, near attractions. WiFi can be spotty, and shared restrooms are dated with few showers. Close to a busy road, no dishwashing. Many would return.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked We only stayed one night, but it was a great ,peaceful night. The site is lovely, with squirrels, wildfowl and other creatures. We didn't eat, only had drinks, at the restaurant but it looked lovely. We didn't use the toilets, showers, so can't comment on them, but our neighboring campers were using them.
If you like fishing you can get a day pass to fish on the lakes.

Disliked We didn't realise you weren't supposed to walk around the lakes, but it was a lovely walk and we got to speak to the fishermen and women. Not sure why you're not supposed to ?

Liked What a fantastic weekend we had at Pittlands. We arrived on Friday and although this was our first visit, the site did not disappoint. The site was beautifully kept, attractive and exceptionally tranquil. On the first night we enjoyed fish, chips and a pint for £10pp which we felt was exceptional value and the quality was superb. On the Saturday, we welcomed two family members for the day and we all thoroughly enjoyed the fun day in support of cystic fibrosis. The entertainment provided by Clay was fantastic and although we didn’t have a look around the stalls, it was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves in support of an amazing charity. We were blown away by the quality and quantity of the raffle prizes on offer and at £5 a ticket, every winner got a prize of at least double the value if not a lot more. We found everyone, including the staff, exceptionally welcoming and friendly. We have stayed at many CL spots in the past and paid a lot more than we did for Pittlands and the quality has been much worse. Overall a fantastic weekend and a spot we look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Disliked The only thing that we found was that whilst the WiFi at the bar was great, the signal was not strong enough to reach the pitch field and with 4G/5G signal not being strong, it was difficult to use the internet and stay in contact with fiends and family.

Liked Small , really kept site with its own cafe/bar . Staff very friendly , facilities were ok be mindful the facilities were also used by all fishermen staying on the site . Site quite remote so no walks to go on and next to a busy road . Saying that we would stay again .

Local attractions

If heritage sites are your sort of thing, this is rather a handy base. The National Trust’s Scotney Castle (15 minutes’ drive) has medieval castle ruins with a moat, a Victorian mansion and stunning, green parkland. That should be the makings of a grand day out, indeed. There are plenty of other historic sites scattered around the High Weald National Landscape to the south of the site, including Bayham Old Abbey (15 minutes), Hever Castle & Gardens (35 minutes) and Bodiam Castle (half an hour). Sissinghurst Castle Garden (25 minutes) is not quite in the National Landscape, but it's another splendid spot. The house belonged to writer Vita Sackville-West, and visitors can stroll around the writing room, the garden and library just as she used to. Families shouldn’t overlook Bewl Water (15 minutes), especially if they want to be able to take their pick from a range of outdoor activities. The lake has a cycle hire station, walking and cycling trails and, conveniently for those who want to get out onto the water, an aqua park and watersports activities like paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing.
