Liked Size of campsite and woodlands

Disliked Cleanliness of facilities, looks like only a cursory clean, and eg behind doors thick dust and cobwebs, hair all over bins, drains blocked, no air flow in showers as vents blocked with dust. Dust on basins and grubby drains. They could be great with some elbow grease on the cleans and more deep cleans.
Ground very hard to get pegs in, feels like gravel layer two inches down.
Welcome sheet has about a 6th on useful info and then very negative vibes with the don't do rules. Which includes quiet from 10 but the new neighbours are very loud and it's 23:30 still going.

From the manager: Thank you for your review Elaina.

We are very sorry that you didn't like our facilities and found them to be dirty. We will address all your concerns immediately and we are sorry that you were not happy. If you go back through all our other reviews, you will see that we have always had top reviews for the cleanliness of our facilities but will however try to continue to do our best to keep everything up to standard.

Not much we can do about the ground we are afraid. Your bookings were both on grass pitches. We have never ever had anyone complain that they are unable to get their tent pegs into the grass before. The only thing that we can think of is that we have not had any rain up until this weekend for a very long time and so the ground was hard.

We are also sorry that you didn't like our handout. The fact that you had very noisy neighbours is exactly why we have a list of rules. They are there for everyones safety and information, we try to keep them short and sweet or we would be giving you all an essay to read. We do ask our customers politely to try to adhere to these rules, unfortunately, there are always going to be people who do their own thing no matter what. We also have a lot of customers from other countries and so need to have a straightforward handout that can be read and understood by everyone. We do give you a nice warm welcome and we leave you to look at the handout at your leisure.

We wish you happy travels for the future. The Oak View Team Ruth and Rob 😊

Wouldn't hesitate to return. Staff friendly.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Lovely small compact site. Toilet block well maintained and and easily accessed. Ruth gave us a wonderful welcome. Nice having fish and chips van on site on Saturday night. Good wifi on site. Lovely woodlands from back of campsite.

Disliked No extraction fans in toilets making them very damp rooms all the time. The main let down was there was no policing regarding excessive noise after 10pm. Our neighbours were too families with young kids than ran riot and all cominication was shouting rather than talking that went on until past 11pm every night despite all other guests quieting down fron 10pm.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Kathryn, it was lovely to meet you.

Regarding the extraction fans, they are actually currently out of order but will be up and running again very soon. it was also a very wet and busy weekend with the showers being constantly used so this did add to the dampness. This is temporary and will be fixed.

Regarding the noisy family near to your pitch, we do ask our customers to come and tell us during the day if there are any problems in the evenings after quiet time. We can then speak to those involved.

We do hope that this will not put you off staying again. The oak View Team Ruth and Rob. 😊

Powered grass campsite

Liked Such a clean site. Feels safe and friendly. Very welcoming. The staff could not do enough for me and were the same with everyone who came and went while I was there. Wonderful walking access to the North Downs straight from the campsite. Location is perfect for exploring Kent.

Disliked The only thing that would make this slightly better was if I could buy essentials, milk, bread (ice cream, wine 🤔) etc, on site. To get to a shop is quite a hike.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Lucie, thank you so much for your kind review. We are pleased that you liked that we have a clean site, that is something that we feel is very important and we work very hard to keep it that way for you all.

We have looked into the possibility of having a shop here before, unfortunately we don't feel that its something thats we can offer at this time as we don't have the room. We did have a service running from the local shop who would deliver, but no one used it as most people do bring their own supplies. We are sorry that this was a problem for you but we hope that this would not put you off from staying again. Best Wishes, The Oak View Team Ruth and Rob

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Excellent and well-organised site. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plenty of space on the pitch. Toilets and showers clean and have what you need.

Disliked The only small issue was the WiFi. Really appreciate free WiFi as phone signal is poor, but the WiFi is intermittent... not a huge issue as we were here to enjoy the outdoors anyway! Will stay again. 😊

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Helen for your review. We are glad that you found so many things to like.

Our wifi has always been on trial and is free for this reason, and we have improved it more than once. It is affected by the amount of people we have staying on site, the trees, the weather and what is going on at the Kent Showground. We suggest that our customers bring their own if access to wifi is a problem.

We would love to see you again. The Oak View Team Ruth and Rob. 😊

Powered gravel and cement/asphalt campsite

Liked We've stayed at Oak View 3 times now, mainly because we like the locality, the walks, and pubs within reasonable walking distance. This stay was because we were going to the Kent show at the Detling show ground. So right on the sites doorstep We knew it was going to be busy so we booked early. Over the course of the rest of our first day the site filled up. Despite the numbers staying on the site at no time did we have to wait for any of the washroom facilities, which were kept clean and to a good standard.

Disliked Nothing to disappoint us during this visit.

As you approach the top you will pass a layby and a sign for Bredhurst. Turn left along the road to Bredhurst; this is Scragged Oak Road. Local attractions

Oak View Holiday Park is in prime position to traverse the best of Kent's countryside, coast, castles and well-known gardens – with Essex and its coast easily accessible too just to the north. Plenty of pedalling and perambulating opportunities are around the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the 153-mile route of the North Downs National Trail through from Farnham to Canterbury, passing the White Cliffs of Dover. This takes in the 119-mile Pilgrims' Way, the supposed route of Thomas Becket from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral. Elsewhere in Kent, loads is on all year round in the 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens at lovely Leeds Castle (10 minutes’ drive), like free falconry displays, play areas, special events and making one's way intrepidly out of the castle maze. Also see Rochester Castle (20 minutes) on the east bank of the Medway for its 12th-century keep and stacks of historical info: the castle was sacked during the Peasants' Revolt, held for Henry III against the barons, and besieged (also because of barons) by bad King John. And of course, just next door is the Kent Showground, which hosts all sorts of events throughout the year (the most famed being the Kent County Show, which usually runs for three days in July).
