  • Well-maintained family glampsite near the village of Smarden in Kent
  • A 35-minute drive to Port Lympne Safari Park; Canterbury 50 minutes
  • Secure site with communal kitchens, five minutes’ drive from shops
A five-acre site set between the pretty Kent villages of Headcorn and Smarden, Go Glamp is a friendly, family-run sort of place that welcomes kids and dogs. It has a chilled vibe so relaxation is never going to be a problem – and your privacy is pretty much ensured, thanks to there being plenty of space around the camping fields. Communal facilities include a kitchen area for food prep and washing up, and refrigerators to keep your food (and drink, very important) chilled. Sparkling-clean toilets and spacious warm showers are found adjacent to the car park. Mobile phone charging points are available, but please warn any teens that internet access is limited. Barbecues and firepits are available for hire, and buckets of wood can be bought for a small charge. Pick up essentials from the convenience stores in Headcorn (five minutes’ drive), or you can ditch the car and walk to the pubs in Smarden (half an hour) if grilling up supper isn’t on the agenda. A trainline runs along the back of the site, bound to London and back, where guests can spy on the occasional Pullman and steam trains (trains run twice per hour and not between midnight and 6am). Guests can also often spot light aircraft displays, hot air balloons and parachutists and wing-walkers from the nearby aerodrome. For your extra safety, the glampsite is secured with automatically closing electric gates; an entry code will be given to you on arrival. If you have any queries or problems, do ask the owners, who live on-site.

Liked Everything. Alan and his wife are the most accommodating hosts and nothing is too much trouble. This was our second year in the yurt and we have already booked for next year. Such a clean and tidy camp and everyone is friendly.

Power optional grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Spacious pitches, very clean facilities, owners very welcoming, there was even a glass of pimms in the evening with all the campers! Kids had a great time, made friends and there is plenty of space for them to play. Loved watching the wing walkers and sky divers and listening to the lions!

Power optional grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Alan and Kim our hosts were very welcoming and provided all the information we needed on arrival for a great weekends break.
Our generous size pitch, although next to the railway line, was the perfect one, grassy and tree lined.

Due to the the fine sunny weather, the skies were littered with the small planes, wing walkers and parachutes from the nearby Headcorn aerodrome; the roar from the big cats over the railway line was interesting too!

Whilst Alan discreetly makes his rounds delivering fire pits, BBQs and logs to those who needs them, he also kindly invites his guest to join them for a courtesy glass of Pimm's at Pimm's O'clock, well 6:15 to be precise!

The site itself is flat grass with a wild meadow in the middle. Yurts and bell tents at one end of the field and a mix of small tents and small campervans hug the two tree lined borders.

The facilities, although simple, were kept spotless throughout, two loos and one working shower at the time of our stay, all meticulously clean!

We had the prefect time, thank you to Alan and Kim.

Disliked Despite only two toilets, the site was fairly busy but we never needed to queue, so no dislikes.

Local attractions

If you want to get active on your glamping break, the whole family can have a runaround on treetop ropes at Go Ape Bedgebury, or go dinghy sailing and climb the inflatable courses at Bewel Water (both half an hour’s drive). Slow things down with nature rambles around the arboretum at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (35 minutes). Plenty to do with animals as the focus too: see silverback gorillas, big cats and African elephants in semi-wild enclosures at Howletts Wildlife Park (50 minutes), or take a jeep safari at Port Lympne Safari Park (35 minutes) to spy on rhinos and stately giraffes. If you have younger kids in tow, let them have a cuddle with the friendly inmates at Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats (20 minutes). Canterbury Cathedral (50 minutes) may be calling to history lovers, who can visit the scene of Thomas Beckett’s murder in 1170, before having an amble around the city centre’s half-timbered streets to the porcelain collections in ornate Beaney House of Art and Knowledge. The medieval cathedral and Norman-era castle in Rochester (40 minutes) are both open to tour, or you can do a spot of window shopping on the historic high street.
