Southdown way walkers resting after a long day
Plenty of public footpaths for dog walking from the campsite
Sunset at molly’s paddock

  • Exclusive adults-only small site in a stunning countryside location
  • Close to the South Downs Way and a 30-minute drive from the coast
  • Quiet setting; one dog welcome; a 10-minute walk from one local pub
Hoping to hike through Hampshire or drive round the Downs? Duncombe Farm has a farmer's field in the lush Meon Valley with your name on it. There are plenty of prime spots for countryside strolls around these parts: the South Downs Way passes right through East Meon, a pleasant parish that’s a mere ten-minute walk from site. The village also has a couple of watering holes to its name (fab for thirsty walkers after days of rural rambles). Guests can be pretty sure they’ll experience country life here: Duncombe Farm is a working arable and sheep farm surrounded by rolling hills. This pastoral spot is all about back to basics getaways and keeping things as peaceful as possible. With that in mind, this is an adults-only site (as wonderful as the wee ones are, there's no harm in steering clear of them every now and then). Facilities are kept low-key for the same reason, although basics like toilets are covered, and guests are free to set up a barbecue or use the site's firepit to build a blaze.  There are plenty of off-site amenities within strolling distance: a village church, food shop, bus stop, post office and a pub are all a 10-minute walk away. Dogs are welcome here (but just one per pitch, and please remember to keep them at a respectful distance from your woolly neighbours).

What customers say

This peaceful, adult-only site gets top marks for its quiet setting & great valley views. Clean facilities, a friendly host, & local produce are big pluses. It's close to village amenities & walking trails, though rocky ground needs strong pegs. Shower temp control was tricky for some.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Delightful campsite. I camped in the non-electric tent section which has a beautiful view over the valley, very quiet. Facilities all very good, excellent directions and check-in instructions. I would be very happy to camp here again if I was in the area.

Disliked Honestly nothing.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really lovely location and layout of the site. So peaceful with a small number of pitches and adults only. We were super grateful to get the best pitch with the best view of the surrounding fields, hills and sunset, so amazing to arrive to!

Nicely equipped and clean toilet and shower and fantastic base to explore the surrounding area. Great communication prior to arrival and everything went smoothly.

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked Loved this little site on a working farm. Tucked away in the Meon Valley, surrounded by beautiful countryside, we took our 6meter motor home away for a little escape. Space for just 4 electric hook ups, with water near by, local pub with good food in the West Meon village.

Disliked Only thing for us would be the shower. A single person shower, it had no control to change the temperature, you just turned it on & off, it was too hot for us.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked This is our favourite campsite in the country - small, quiet, no kids. Remote enough that on a clear night you can see virtually every star humanity has ever mapped, but still near enough to the local pub that you can walk (and it's a blinding pub at that)
We've visited twice, and will probably be back many many more times!

Disliked Pitching your tent can be difficult as there is a lot of slate in the earth. With some time and persistence though we found some gaps and our tent remained upright for the whole weekend. Maybe invest in some stronger pegs before showing up.
Not being able to adjust the temperature of the shower isn't ideal when it's 30 degrees out too, but it's a minor problem

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked We loved this site! It was peaceful, perfect and just what we wanted! We couldn't have wished for a better weekend - the site has everything you need, a shower, toilet, local eggs and bacon available to buy, and logs for the fire pits. The pitches are neat and have lovely views, surrounded by greenery. Everything was clean, tidy and beautifully kept, and Lisa made sure to come and say hello in the evening of our first night!

Disliked Nothing!

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked Lovely quiet site with gorgeous views and a super friendly host.
Nice pub with good food a short walk away, but very popular. Best to book if you intend to eat out during your stay.
On site facilities basic but completely serviceable.
Loved being able to buy local eggs and bacon from the honesty box.
We found a nice shortish walk from the campsite, and believe there were a few others if you were staying longer.

Local attractions

Duncombe Farm is in the South Downs National Park, a landscape of red brick villages, rolling hills and crystal-clear chalk streams, and close to the South Downs Way (a 100-mile trail that stretches all the way from Winchester to Eastbourne). There are plenty of shorter walks here too, though, if you don’t want to get puffed out: head to Beacon Hill Nature Reserve (20 minutes' drive) for spectacular views over the Meon Valley and a manageable six-mile circular stroll.  The coast is also within easy reach: the nearest beaches are at Hayling Island (30 minutes) or the Witterings (40 minutes). Make tracks to the latter for far-reaching views over Chichester Harbour (pack your binoculars, too – it's a birdlife hub). Sticking with the nautical theme, Portsmouth's historic dockyard (30 minutes) is also worth a gander if you fancy exploring Tudor, Napoleonic and modern naval history.  Guests of a literary bent, meanwhile, should head to Jane Austen's former home (20 minutes) or live out their period fantasies at Hinton Ampner, a local stately home (20 minutes). Petersfield (15 minutes) also has three well-stocked bookshops if you fancy getting some reading in during your stay.
