Local attractions

The picturesque town of Romsey in Hampshire sits beside the lovely River Test, one of the finest trout and salmon rivers in Europe. It is home to a multitude of small independent retailers and its winding streets add to Romsey’s charm. The new Romsey Heritage and Visitor Centre combines the King John’s House and Tudor Cottage with a former Victorian gun shop. The 13th-century King John's House was once the centre of a medieval complex and visitors can see roof timbers, graffiti cut into the medieval plaster and a rare bone floor. Romsey’s magnificent Norman Abbey, dating back to 907AD, dominates the town and plays host to an exciting programme of choral music and concerts throughout the year while the War Memorial Park is peaceful and relaxed. Located on the beautiful Test Way walking and cycling trail, this is an excellent base for touring the pretty villages of the Test Valley and nearby attractions such as Broadlands, the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and Mottisfont Abbey, home to the National Rose Collection. The village is also home to The Rapids, a lively indoor leisure park with pools, water slides and a gym, and to the Plaza Theatre. Our campsite is only a short drive from Peppa Pig World and Paulton's Park, ideal for a day out with the kids.
