Lots of space to spread out
Not a cloud in the sky
The grass has been cut, ready to welcome new guests
Well-maintained grass pitches

  • Simple, spacious pitches in rural Hampshire; kids and dogs welcome
  • Winchester, Watercress Line and riding centre within 20 minutes' drive
  • Barbecues permitted; several family-run pubs nearby for eating out
Laidback and friendly are the key words at Barton View, in the handsome Hampshire countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Alresford. It’s a pick-your-own pitch setup here, and there’s plenty of space to choose from, all of it with fine rural views towards Winchester by day and dark skies for star-spotting by night. The owners have allocated a minimum of six metres between pitches here, so you can afford to spread out a little and make yourselves at home, perhaps bringing along a firepit to do a bit of cooking and keep warm while you enjoy the stunning sunsets. Dogs are welcome at Barton View (as long as they’re kept on a lead) and there’s plenty of space for kids to play or look out for wildlife – deer can often be seen in neighbouring fields, and there may be buzzards, kites and kestrels overhead. Alresford is a good hub for restaurants and cafés, and there are several family-run pubs close to the site too so you shouldn’t go short of places to eat or drink nearby. If you’d rather go down the self-catering route, bring along a barbecue and pick up supplies at the shops in town or the local farm shop. Days out nearby? There’s plenty to choose from here, including rides on the Watercress Line, historic strolls around Winchester, walks in the South Downs National Park and animal encounters at Marwell Zoo.

What customers say

This peaceful, well-kept site has friendly hosts. Guests rave about the super clean, unique toilet/shower horse boxes. Highlights include spacious pitches, a lovely rural setting with farm animals, and freedom to pitch anywhere. Good 4G. Minor notes: narrow access, could use more recycling.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Very friendly and welcoming Hosts. Could pitch wherever you wanted to, so nice and relaxed from the outset. Spotless facilities, cleverly located in horse boxes with top notch hardware and good quality loo roll, branded soap & paper towelling. Fantastic shower.
Beautiful spot in a field next to horses and sheep. Excellent 4G internet signal. Whats not to like!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The peace and quiet. The toilets and showers are clean and tended regularly. The owls in the woods were nice, and the red kites and buzzards. Pegs easy to get in the ground. Friendly owners. Oh, and the horses and rams in the next field were entertaining.

Disliked Nothing.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Remote and peaceful location with fairly easy access (some narrow country lanes to be aware of, especially if towing!); lots of space to choose from; very friendly, relaxed and helpful hosts; clean and unobtrusive toilet/shower facilities; some nice walks nearby

Disliked A little on the pricier side for this type of site, but the location, facilities and hosts make up for it.
