  • Peaceful rural site a mile and a half from the village of Witham
  • Five fishing lakes with 100+ pegs and carp up to 22lb
  • Tackle shop; licensed bar-restaurant on site open on select days/times
To Essex! And to angling followed by peaceful eves by the lake… take your tackle to Colemans Cottage Fishery to get hooked on these green and serene surrounds. There are five fishing lakes on this lush Essex site, home of over 100 pegs and stuffed with specimens of roach, bream, barbel, rudd and carp of up to 22lb. Fishing is via day tickets bought from the Colemans Cottage tackle shop, where you can also top up your kit, buy bait, or swap tales of whoppers and fishing tips with the expert staff. And if you're not a fishing sort? Also sorted: Colemans is a mile and a half from the village of Witham, from which you can reach Colchester in 15 minutes' drive in one direction and Chelmsford in 25 minutes in the other for days of shopping and sightseeing. Maldon and Mersea Island are within easy reach too, as is Southend for days at the Essex coast. Whatever your plans for the day, there's a warm welcome at the site's Waterside licensed bar and restaurant (open Thursday through until Sunday for breakfast and brunch). The menu offers up full breakfasts, homemade brunches, desserts and seasonal dishes, along with drinks to raise a glass to the catch of the day.

What customers say

Peaceful, friendly spot, great for anglers! Guests rave about the cafe & owners' warm welcome. Facilities clean & adequate, though could use an update. Some traffic noise near the A12. Pods comfy. Many want to return!

Liked Cafe looked great but wasn’t open so can’t say what the food was like. Easy to find and no hassle hooking up. Ideal for overnight stopover just off the main road.

Disliked No answer from both published numbers (used third number on gate ok). Same thoughts as others about the toilet and showers - was not nice having other people’s used and grubby towels, wash stuff and bath mat in the shower room (which is a portacabin). Bins not emptied and no toilet roll either. Feels like these facilities are an afterthought. Shame really because it could be a great spot. Definitely not worth £28 overnight - sorry guys.

Liked Nice walks around the lakes. Site itself was small and quiet (but see below). On site cafe was nice to have and seemed OK (but TBH we didn't use it).

Disliked Very poor shower and toilet facilities (sorry, but even on a small site, guests/customers deserve better). Very close to A12 road and noisy, but nothing can be done about that. Pitches poorly maintained.
