Longleys Farm Campsite: View of the site

General

  • Peaceful farm campsite on 180 acres, a mile from Hailsham
  • Herstmonceux Castle 15 minutes’ drive; Eastbourne beach 25 minutes
  • Part of a working organic dairy farm, with a farm shop on site

What a handy location this is for an East Sussex countryside break… Longleys Farm Campsite is part of a 180-acre organic farm, so it’s got all the peaceful atmosphere and rural views you could hope for – and yet it’s just a little over a mile from the centre of Hailsham.

That setting means you can easily walk into town for pubs, takeaways and restaurants, or to pick up supplies for meals back on site (picnics, barbecues or campfire cooking… take your pick). The farm is also just next to the 1066 Country walking trail, which you can follow to Pevensey village or across to Herstmonceux Castle.

The location is also on the edge of the Pevensey Levels Site of Special Scientific Interest, so the surroundings are teeming with wildlife. With that in mind, the farm uses organic farming methods that are intended to enhance the local ecology – and that certainly seems to be working, as surveys have found more than 45 different native bird species here (including several whose numbers are in serious decline).

And of course you’ll also spot the residents down at ground level: this is a working dairy farm where you’ll see the herd walk past the camping field every morning and evening. (Don’t forget that you’ll also need to be aware of various hazards when staying on a working farm.)

Facilities here include a modern toilet/shower block, a washing-up area and a shop where you can pick up farm produce.

Please note

This is a quiet park: no music is allowed.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

There is no reception building on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Nice sized new campsite with clean toilets and showers located in a nice part of East Sussex .
The campsite is located next to a dairy farm and the farmer visits the campsite in the afternoon to sell their dairy and meat products produced from that very farm .
    ( steaks , burgers , sausages , milk , cream and butter :-) )

They also allow firepits as long as they are the off the ground style .
    .

    Disliked:

They don't allow music to be played... however that might be a good thing given the size of speakers some people use at campsites....

We had a fantastic stay, better than we could have wished for as our first experience camping as a family. Our children are 4 and 2 and they absolutely loved the cows coming past the tent morning and evening. We were very lucky and got to have a tractor trailer ride too! The shower and washing up area was clean and the site manager was very friendly and helpful. The farm steak was delicious too. Thank you very much.
