  • Peaceful family-friendly site in East Sussex
  • 10 mins from site of Battle of Hastings; 15 mins from Hastings town
  • Five minutes from Sussex vineyards
Planning your getaway doesn’t have to feel like launching a military campaign – at Meadowview Park, a peaceful and secluded site less than 10 minutes from the town of Battle in East Sussex, it’s a breeze. This part of Sussex is 1066 country, so diving into the history of the battle that changed the course of England is a must – at the site of the world-famous Battle of Hastings, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Meadowview, explore the ruins of an abbey built by William the Conqueror, follow the sculpture trail, visit the gatehouse exhibition and climb to the abbey’s roof for views over the battlefield. There are plenty of pleasant walks in the area around Meadowview, so bring Rex along and he can have a break too – there's space to have a walk around the park as long as dogs are kept on a lead. When you’re feeling peckish, fire up the barbecue or get that campfire burning to sort dinner. You can get all the essentials in Hastings, 15 minutes from the site, or head to one of the restaurants within 10 minutes of Meadowview. Wash down dinner with a drink at the pub in Sedlescombe, 15 minutes' walk away, and grab sweets and ice-cream for dessert at the small shop on site.

What customers say

Meadow View is a small, friendly campground praised for its clean facilities and welcoming staff. Guests appreciated the good location for exploring local attractions and the on-site bar and cafe. Pitches, especially grass ones, are noted as being on a slope, and some found the site a bit cramped. Showers require 20 cents for four minutes. Despite minor issues, many guests found it excellent value and would return.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Quite a nice spot, one of the only places open in the off season. Facilities good and staff very friendly.

Disliked Quite cheeky with the logs, £8 for a small bag of quite knotty logs and not allowing non-purchased logs.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Close to Hastings

Disliked It’s not really designed for campers. The lady who is supposed to be on reception for help was never there when we needed her. The machines only take 20p for the showers and when asking for some change she was not very accommodating

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Friendly and welcoming campsite with a lovely community atmosphere.
Kevin and Chris in ‘The Naughty Corner’ were brilliant! We had issues with our drive away awning and within minutes Kevin and another camper were over to help. It took ages but they sorted it out for us. It was late so Chris asked us if we wanted them to order us any food - we said yes and Kevin and the other camper even went and picked it up! We ended up sitting all together round a camp fire and chatting along with others that knew Kevin and Chris from previous visits which was lively!
They could not do enough for us!
Showers are the best I e used on a campsite- clean, hot rain showers with plenty of room to hang your clothes and towels etc! Well worth the 20p!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Nice site with clean toilets and showers.
Grey waste and chemical toilet disposals were clean and accessible with good lighting.

Disliked Lots of sited caravans dotted around site and all seem to have dogs, but the dogs are walked around the pitch up sites to do there business on our grassed areas where we sit and eat when weather is fine, not wanting to watch a dog going to toilet while we are sat there eating. 🙁🤮

Power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Nothing

Disliked A Trailer park feel with mainly residential pitches, hardstanding pitches for caravans are shaded in the afternoon and are away from the camping field so absolutely no atmosphere of fellow campers due to residential pitches. Unable to comment on toilets and showers as did not use, bar and cafe were shut this weekend!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Pretty much everything :-)
Its a great site, the pitches are roomy, the facilities are excellent and plentiful. Also as a woman traveling alone (albeit with big dogs), it was very secure, which I appreciate alot.

The vending facilities are next level. I was seriously impressed. Using the term 'vending machine' is an injustice.

There is a park for the dogs which is also beautiful and large enough for 4 setters to run off their energy.

The area is beautiful. We were literally listening to owls hooting and saw an owl flying from the trees for about 500 yards before it went back into the trees.

It felt like a natural oasis.

However, the WIFI is great too. While I was watching the dogs and the birds and soaking up the sun, my cousin was on the next pitch watching the Saturday afternoon football :-)

Great walks and beaches near by.

Literally everything you could wish for.

PS - Pitches are lovely and level.

Local attractions

You don’t have to go far from Meadowview to get your fill of sightseeing. The coastal town of Hastings is a 15-minute drive from the site – explore the streets of the Old Town, visit the museums and the ruins of the 11th-century Hastings Castle, climb to the skies on the East Hill Cliff Railway funicular or dive below the ground at St Clements Caves. Not all of the stately homes near Meadowview are in ruins, and some have interesting literary links: the Georgian Lamb House in Rye was home to Henry James, Bateman’s in Burwash is where Rudyard Kipling lived until his death, and Monk’s House, an hour away, was the retreat of Virginia Woolf. Away from novelists, the spectacular 14th-century moated castles of Bodiam and Scotney are both within half an hour of the site. There’s more to this part of the country than history and it might even surprise you. When you think of wine regions, you possibly think of France, Italy and Chile – well, now you can add Sussex to that mental list… Grab your sober buddy and head for tours and tastings at Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard or Carr Taylor Wines, both within five minutes of Meadowview, or Kingscote Estate, Court Garden Vineyard, Ridgeview Winery or Bluebell Vineyard, all around an hour away. For more kid-friendly activities, head to the aquarium in Hastings or join in Smugglers Adventure at St Clements Cave.
