Bluebell Coppice Park: The camp site

General

  • In a secluded valley between Battle and Hastings
  • Wildlife haven: spot badgers, foxes, deer, rabbits, owls and hedgehogs
  • Fishing lake, dog trail, coffee shop, adventure play and wardens 24hrs

As you might guess from the name, Bluebell Coppice Park is a woodland site. But you’ll need to stop for a sec and have a look at the site pics to get a full sense of just how scenic and well maintained it is: expect tall trees, carpets of spring bluebells, excellent facilities and wildlife all around.

The park is in a secluded East Sussex valley between Battle and Hastings, deep in 1066 Country and with pitches surrounded by the owners’ private woodland. Look out for species of all sorts during your stay here: the woods are home to – among many others – foxes, rabbits, badgers and squirrels; woodpeckers, owls, buzzards and bats; mice, voles and hedgehogs; grass snakes and slow worms; dragonflies and damsonflies… and plants of all sorts including ferns, orchids, foxgloves and wood anemones.

A small coarse fishing lake is also on site (look out here for mallards and moorhens) and there’s a dog-friendly trail for further walks in the woods. Once you’ve exhausted all those options, amble over to the coffee shop for refreshments, then – if the kids have any energy left – over to the adventure play area (it’s suitable for all ages of kids, but parental assistance may be needed for the very young).

Pitching is in three fields: the biggest one with the amenities block (newly extended and renovated in 2019 ); the second with the fishing lake, and the third in a woodland area suitable for tents. All guests have access to the amenities block with separate disabled facilities, as well as free hot water available 24 hours a day, and acovered washing-up area. Wardens are on site at all times.

And when you’re venturing off site? If you’re not sure where to make for first, the well-stocked tourist information point should supply some tips: you could, for example, have days in Hastings, Battle, Rye, more Sussex seaside towns, nearby nature reserves, the High Wealds, Sussex vineyards, Sussex castles…

We were warmly welcomed by charming owners. They promptly checked us in and showed us around the thoughtfully landscaped site to our bell tent. Bell tent was great value for money, big enough to comfortably accommodate a baby, a kid and two knackered parents and zero effort! Loved that bedding was provided and I didn't have to faff with another load of wash when we got back. Also didn't have to faff about with packing cutlery and washing up supplies, and a kettle and fridge made the experience very civilised, as did the toilets and showers which managed to remain clean and pleasant to use. Thoughtful details like fresh bread and croissants and farm shop and ice cream are gorgeous little touches. There was a playground for our older son to play on and I have to say the site seems to attract some lovely families. We planned this trip cause our son wanted to experience camping and roasting marshmallows- mission accomplished and even we, as inexperienced non camping parents with a new baby, had a good time.

child friendly set up, pitches sited around playground so you could watch your kids from your pitch. Honesty cafe is a nice touch, serving fresh bread, biscuits, tea, coffee, ice creams, milk etc. Showers are clean, free, with decent water pressure and proper shower cubicles, no annoying push button timers! Ample shade or sunny spots around site. You can hire fire pits and buy firewood. Lovely chilled out ambience. Kids adored this site and were always off with their new friends.

Lovely place if you have a motor home, not ideal for tent pitches08/01/2022

Location and site itself was beautiful and seclude. Facilities where a bit run down but kept clean.

    Disliked:

Booked a non electrical pitch was given an electrical pitch, some would say this is a good thing but it was designed for a motor home, was gravel all in/on the ground which pmade it very hard to pitch the tent and after 3 days had caused damage to our tent, shoes had to be warn at all times in the tent as it was painful under foot. The non electrical pitches where a lot further from the facilities also was right next to a bog of water that absolutely stank.

From the manager...

Really sorry you didn't enjoy your stay but would encourage readers to look at other reviews in relation to our toilets and facilities which contrary to the comments made are all new and very well maintained and regularly get sought out for praise.

You were offered a number of pitches when you arrived and at no stage bought up an issue as we could and would have moved you around.

The non electric pitches are staggered throughout the park and not all located by the fishing lake which is struggling with a drop in water levels due to a lack of rain for past 3 months but certainly isn't a bog and certainly doesn't stink, in fact the previous reviewer was on one of those pitches and clearly enjoyed their stay.

Stayed in a bell tent basically a Tipi with double bed and two single futons. They were so comfortable to sleep on. Even felt abit too plush with the all white linen whilst looked across at my friends and kids in there three tents.and sleeping bags!! Furnished nicely with kettle, cups and plates and fridge.

Great location on the edge of the wood ..everything in walking distance.

Fabulous clean hot showers...loved the honest shop with delicious cappuccino and fresh rolls in the morning. Forgot to pack my daughter a towel and she was lent one by the couple who manage bluebell camp site. I've forgotten their names but a lovely set up and very reasonably priced.
