What customers say

This is a friendly, well-kept adult-only campsite with private, level spots, often tucked among trees. Hosts are praised for being helpful and attentive, with many thoughtful touches. Facilities are generally clean and good. Convenient for the Lake District, with nearby amenities and public transport. Some noted A road noise and steep walks to pitches, but privacy and views often compensated.

Shepherd's hut (mountain view)

Liked Shepherds hut was absolutely lovely and had everything we needed. Really clean and comfortable and the little log burner is fantastic. Great location to get to many parts of the lakes and the pub just across the road is fantastic, brews their own beers and serves really good food.

Disliked Nothing to dislike

Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Hosts were lovely and greeted us on check in and ran us through the layout and facilities.
The campsite is lovely , amazing views, good size pitches , nice that there is a fire pit in each pitch.
Toilets, bins, sinks and drink water stations labelled clearly .
Really couldn’t fault the site .
Easy enough to find and good for those who don’t drive ! There is a bus stop less than 5minutes away .
Really enjoyed our short stay, looking to book again next year

Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite

Liked really lovely campsite. We received a warm welcome and a had a little tour around the facilities there. The shower and toilets were always spotless. The tent pitches are private and it is in a very good location - a lovely pub a 5 minute walk away and a shop over the road. Would definitely recommend this campsite.

Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Small site, super friendly and helpful owner. Great location from which to get all over the Lakes with a car. Charging available and a drying room. Would return. Pub and shop across the road.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, but facilities are basic (although very clean and functional).

Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Malcolm and Ann-Marie were lovely. They went out of their way to greet us and make sure the site was to our liking. Our stay in the Shepherd's Hut was lovely, it had all necessary amenities and was very comfortable. The campsite was again great, with clear, nearby toilet and drinking water facilities and a private element to each pitch. There was a lovely ginger kitty who greeted us in the morning! Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay around the Windermere area with a vehicle :)

From the manager: Thanks for the glowing review and we're pleased you very much enjoyed your stay so I'll trying to count that as a 10.

Sadly anything less than an overall score of 10 degrades our long term site score of 9.6 which we've successfully maintained for a number of years and won multiple Pitchup awards for. I wonder if it's a Pitchup error.

Small hillside primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Amazing little campsite just outside of Windemere! Bus stop is a 5 minute walk away meaning that getting into town is a breeze. Campsite has great facilities and the owners are so friendly! Great views from the campsite, and you can be out in the wild within 5 minutes as footpaths and trails are close by. Would 100% recommend.

Local attractions

You can see the Old Man of Coniston from the pitches on a clear day… and if that whets your appetite for scenic outdoor pursuits, you’ve come to the right place. Wainwright baggers can easily get to Kentmere Horseshoe and the other Far Eastern Fells from Ings Kippers, and it’s an easy two-mile journey to the shores of Windermere for wild swims, watersports or waterside walks (or maybe a leisurely lake cruise if you need a little rest…) This area is well-known for its links with Beatrix Potter too – if you’d like to find out more about the author behind the classic children’s books, take a trip to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (10 minutes’ drive), and then visit her former home at Hill Top (half an hour). It’s worth stopping by in Kendal (15 minutes) too – it’s home to a castle, a lively arts scene and lots of shops and places to eat. For a real taste of the local area, head to Staveley (five minutes) and a tour of the Hawkshead Brewery (preceded by a walk up Reston Scar if you feel the need to earn that pint…)
