Main campsite with spectacular views of the howgill fells
Farm ponies enjoying the first day of being outside after winter

  • Family-friendly Yorkshire Dales farm near the Dales Way
  • In southern Cumbria, a mile from the centre of Sedbergh
  • Walk to Sedbergh for dog-friendly pubs, cafés and eateries in 15 mins
There's something mightily tempting about staying on a working Dales farm with cattle, sheep, pigs, horses and goats. Farm and Fell Campsite is a peaceful farm site in scenic southern Cumbria, just 15 minutes' walk away from Sedbergh, where guests can get stuck into a number of dog-friendly pubs, cafés and family-friendly eateries. This site is something of a geographical oddity, being located within the borders of the Yorkshire Dales but outside the boundaries of Yorkshire. The surroundings have all the stunning scenery you'd expect from this national park location, with highlights including the nearby river Rawthey, miles of dry stone walls and views over the spectacular Howgill Fells. Walkers itching to get out and explore it all have footpaths (including the Dales Way) that start almost opposite the site entrance. Every pitch at Farm and Fell Campsite has its own firepit; hardwood logs, sticks and firelighters are available from the farmer between 6pm and 8pm every evening. Farm activities may also be available (to be booked separately – mention you're interested on the booking form to learn more). These include lamb feeding, calf rearing, goat walking and horse and carriage rides into town.

Beautiful scenery & relaxed vibe! Friendly staff & farm animal interaction are big pluses. Great for walks & a stroll into Sedbergh. Basic facilities, though some want upgrades. Good value; many plan to return.

Main Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site was in a great location, 15 minute walk into Sedbergh where there are some nice pubs with great food. The site is also 30 seconds walk from a river where you can swim or fish. Tent pitches were well kept, short mown grass and generally quite flat, each with its own firepit. The site has a barn round the corner from the campsite which has a stage and music (we visited bank holiday weekend) and a bar, you can also get food from here. The site owners also came round daily collecting bags of rubbish which I thought was really good. The on site facilities were generally kept clean and tidy and were fit for purpose.

Disliked Although the facilities (toilets, showers and wash sink) were generally okay, there could be more of them and slight improvements for the size of the site. There are 3 toilets and sometimes you had to queue for them. The toilets could also do with a little bin in each. People were leaving some rubbish in them (not the owners fault obviously) and toilet roll tubes often ended up on the floor and wet and soggy. A bin in each toilet would solve this problem. There were 2 showers which were spacious but again, for the size of the site, people were often queuing for these, they were also affected (temperature and power) by the wash sink outside. Lastly, there was 1 sink, for the whole site, I think this needs increasing in numbers also.

Main Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great size site, friendly farm animals, onsite Barn with Music/Entertainment/Bar/Bouncy castle open select weekends which is great serving food and breakfasts very reasonably priced. You can do a lovely streamside walk, only 10/15min walk into Sedbergh. Fire pits at select pitches and wood available to buy. This is our second year at this camp site the owners are really friendly and helpful they don't stop bless them.We will be back again. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

Liked Nice location and pitch. Barn bar, band and bouncy castle brilliant

Disliked Family side was loud partying until 3. For the price I would expect more toilets, showers and sinks compared to other similar sites.

From the manager: I’ve no idea what this says, but this is a customer who stopped with us twice in 2 weeks, so it makes a negative review a bit nonsense when they say they wouldn’t visit again.

Sincerely

Brian

Liked Set in the most gorgeous spot. Everything you need. Lovely and peaceful. Easy walk into Sedbergh for a lovely night out. Perfect. Oh, and the goats. Loved them.

Disliked Would be good to have recycling bins as obviously folk do use lots of bottled water! Why with lovely tap water I will never understand?

Main Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Price for the location to Lake Windermere. Convenience shop and a couple takeaways, pubs and restaurants within a 2 minute drive also.
Our kids loved seeing and petting the goats, cows and horses on site.

Disliked Free for all tent pitches. We arrived late evening and most pitches were taken, especially the flat ones. So we either had to camp on a hilltop or cram in-between other campers.
We chose the top field as the bottom was completely full and a bit too loud for us. This meant though we were quite a far walk to the toilet and showers ( unless we walked to the festival style portaloos, which were always dirty ).
The showers were ok ( for outdoor showers ), although anytime anyone used the sink to wash dishes, the water pressure dropped to almost nothing and the temperature becomes freezing.
The owners come around in the evening selling logs for fire pits, which I thought was awesome. However, most bought logs which meant the site smelt like a bonfire and thick clouds of smoke covered us as we sat outside the tent.

From the manager: Where to start with this…..

….you arrived late - but we still facilitated your access.

…..you didn’t call us on arrival. It wasn’t a free for all whatsoever. Some of the pitches on the main campsite had more than one tent - that’s fine, they were all in their cut and marked pitches.

……you drove past 2 fields (with their gates open) that are a 80 metre walk to porcelain toilets. These fields had less than 3 families in each.

…..you chose where you pitched. There was a 13 acre field open with no more than 20 pitches in it - almost a football field each, but you chose to put yourself between 2 other campers who were enjoying camp fires.

…..the showers are free. There’s a big sign up informing camper that if they use the sink, your shower will run cold…..ask yourself why they did that 🤔

……it was August Bank Holiday - the busiest weekend of the year. If you come camping in the Yorkshire Dales on a sunny August bank holiday, it’s going to be busy and families will enjoy camp fires - and so they should.

Sincerely

Brian
