  • Family-friendly Yorkshire Dales farm near the Dales Way
  • In southern Cumbria, a mile from the centre of Sedbergh
  • Walk to Sedbergh for dog-friendly pubs, cafés and eateries in 15 mins
There's something mightily tempting about staying on a working Dales farm with cattle, sheep, pigs, horses and goats. Farm and Fell Campsite is a peaceful farm site in scenic southern Cumbria, just 15 minutes' walk away from Sedbergh, where guests can get stuck into a number of dog-friendly pubs, cafés and family-friendly eateries. This site is something of a geographical oddity, being located within the borders of the Yorkshire Dales but outside the boundaries of Yorkshire. The surroundings have all the stunning scenery you'd expect from this national park location, with highlights including the nearby river Rawthey, miles of dry stone walls and views over the spectacular Howgill Fells. Walkers itching to get out and explore it all have footpaths (including the Dales Way) that start almost opposite the site entrance. Every pitch at Farm and Fell Campsite has its own firepit; hardwood logs, sticks and firelighters are available from the farmer between 6pm and 8pm every evening. Farm activities may also be available (to be booked separately – mention you're interested on the booking form to learn more). These include lamb feeding, calf rearing, goat walking and horse and carriage rides into town.

This campsite boasts a beautiful rural setting with stunning views and easy access to walks and Sedbergh village. Pitches are generally spacious and well-maintained. Guests loved the friendly, helpful staff, farm animals, and relaxed vibe. Facilities are basic but adequate, with recent upgrades. Despite some weekend crowding, the overall experience is highly positive, with many planning return trips.

Main Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great setting - close to village and right by the river, loads of places to walk (or run) nearby. Fairly busy but plenty of space. Lovely cows in the next field too

Disliked Facilities are very scare, (3 toilets and 2 showers plus 1 sink to wash up) basic (but we’re not fussy - just fix toilet seats, please) not cleaned or well enough stocked over the weekend.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Context helps visitors to assess the veracity of reviews.

This is a camper who was asked politely 3 times to put his dog on a lead after it was seen on separate occasions harassing the cattle and horses in adjacent fields.

There were 5 toilets on site this weekend (including 2 portaloos to reduce walking distances for those furthest away). This camper was pitched an equal distance from the shower block and portaloos. We know from cctv that at peak times there was never a queue for main toilets more than 3 people (for 3 toilets).

A toilet seat was broken and was repaired within 2 hours of it being reported - note it wasn’t reported at all by this camper.

Toilets and showers are checked and replenished every 2 hours.

If anyone can find comparable facilities at a cheaper price in a 5 mile radius, we’ll give them free camping for a full seasonr……

Sincerely

Brian

Main Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Quiet mid week when we stayed. Basic but everything worked. Nice showers/loos. Kept clean and stocked up with loo roll. Great showers. Got busy at weekend when we were leaving. Lovely people running it.

Disliked Only that it got really busy at the weekend but it was a hot July weekend so it would.

Main Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful landscapes, I loved the panoramic views, waterfalls and river walks and accessible fields and paths nearby for great dog walks. I liked the basic simplicity of the campsite, it had all the facilities I needed including Elsan disposal.

Disliked The long walk uphill to the village to the nearest pub - took me more than 15 minutes!

Local attractions

Guests at Farm and Fell Campsite have access to the Dales Way footpath within a few minutes' walk of base, opening up 80 miles of traffic-free trails, most of which run alongside local watercourses. Whether you head south to the Pennines or north to the Lakeland foothills, walking in this part of the world is always a very special experience. Sedbergh town centre (15 minutes' walk) is also close by, with places to stop for snacks and drinks and a couple of book shops (one of them very large) where you can pick up some holiday reading material. For more low-key local things to do, check out Farfield Mill five minutes' drive down the road, or set off on a round trip on the scenic Settle to Carlisle railway from Garsdale (20 minutes' drive). Into your sport? Try Killington Sailing Association's watersports centre (10 minutes) or the Lakeland Climbing Centre (30 minutes).
