  • Adults-only Cheshire touring pitches on a small site near Nantwich
  • A 40-minute drive to Chester; 10 minutes to Hack Green nuclear bunker
  • Dogs welcome, with plenty of great places to walk nearby
The folk that run The Stables are very fond of their lovely area – so they decided to open up a small touring site that would allow others to come and share the experience of being surrounded by the Cheshire countryside. They’ve kept things very simple here, just installing a couple of hardstanding pitches (each with a grass area too) with access to chemical disposal and a recycling point. (Please note that does mean no toilets or showers provided, so you’ll need to be self-sufficient.) To maintain the peace of the place, it’s an adults-only setup here – but dogs are welcome (a good move, given that there are so many great walks around in the local area). Nantwich is less than 10 minutes’ drive away for a good cluster of places to eat out, but you may well prefer to pick up supplies at the town’s shops instead and get a barbecue going back at base (top tip: try to time your town trip for a time when there’s a market on – either the daily traditional market or the monthly farmers’ market). The small number of guests means there’s plenty of peace to soak up on site – but there are also a good clutch of places to visit nearby (including fishing, antiques shopping and a not-very-secret-anymore nuclear bunker) and you can hit the historic streets of Chester in about 40 minutes for a change of scenery.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Large spacious hardstanding pitch with grass at the side. The site is both well kept and set out. There is a large fenced nature field. We saw many birds including birds of prey, and a song thrush was in good form. The owner is very nice.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Peace and quiet, friendly owner, lovely location. New pitches were being added to increase capacity, this is fully understandable as it is such a lovely central location. This is our second visit ideal location for a few days stop off if you are doing a long north to south journey or vice versa. Close to M6 and major attractions in Cheshire. Tarporley just down the road well worth a visit, the canal at Nantwich. Countryside location.

Disliked Nothing.

Power optional cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked A peaceful adults only site.
Julie the owner is very welcoming, can't do enough for you.
3 pubs and a chippy about 15 min walk and about 40 min walk into nantwich with plenty of eateries.
I do recommend this site, we will be staying again soon.

Power optional grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Quiet site, central for our requirements plenty of walks. Site is tidy with gravel pitches in one half and electric on meters, £1 and or £2 coins required. We did not use electric. One half of site had electric, which I assume you paid for in pitch fee and concrete base hard standing. Very nice lady owns site. We booked 3 nights, went to a family function where we stayed in hotel, and then returned for a night. Would definitely go again. Fresh water tap and toilet disposal on site.

Local attractions

Make sure you’ve got some space left in your tourer, as there’s some good retail therapy going on around here – as well as those markets in Nantwich, you might like to stop by at Dagfields Craft & Antiques or Bridgemere Garden Centre (both 10 minutes’ drive). There are lots of shops in Chester (40 minutes) too, of course – along with some gorgeous black-and-white houses, a medieval cathedral and the only intact set of defensive city walls in the UK. It’s easy enough to make a full day out in the city, but you could tag on a trip to Chester Zoo or Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet too if you like. Staying closer to home, it’s worth seeking out Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker (10 minutes) for a dip into 20th-century military history – and you may also like to book in a gin tour and tasting at Three Wrens Distillery (10 minutes). It’s about the same drive time to Coole Acres Fishery for those who are handy with a rod.
