  • Pub site a 15-minute drive from Macclesfield and the Peak District
  • Biddulph Grange Garden 15 minutes’ drive; Alton Towers 35 minutes
  • Home-cooked pub fare; beer garden with views; children’s playground
Are you keen to test your hiking mettle on some challenging trails, but equally keen on relaxing in the evening with a nice pint of ale and some home-cooked food in the comfort of a traditional pub? You can combine your interests at Four Trees, a family- and dog-friendly site a 15-minute drive down the A523 from Macclesfield. This family- and dog-friendly site with grassy pitches sits next door to the Harrington Arms, a traditional community pub with a children’s playground and a beer garden from where you can admire the surrounding countryside and the hilly landscape of Peak District National Park in the distance. Epic treks await in the Peak District (15 minutes’ drive) – you might not complete the long-distance Pennine Way, for example, but surely even walking a handful of miles through moorlands and limestone dales will give you bragging rights with your mates. After a few days’ trekking, you might like to wind down with a spot of angling at Bosley Reservoir (five minutes), where you might catch pike and perch (be sure to contact the local fishing club for permits). While you wait for the big one to bite, keep your eyes peeled for Canada geese, buzzards and other birds. If you’d rather be on the water than on the shore, Rudyard Lake (15 minutes) has a lively sailing club where you can get a permit to launch your canoe or paddleboard (please note, there is no equipment for hire here). The site comes with a toilet block, showers, and a washing-up area with a drying room, plus chemical waste disposal.

FHU grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked Very pleasant for an over night stay pub was lovely, lovely staff, food was amazing great portion. For an over night stay it was great I would definitely stay again if wanted just to get away for the night. Views from beer garden was nice as well. After an over night stay chill out and a few beers perfect.

Disliked Not really got a moan tbh if anything site Probably needs an update but that's it.

Liked some reviews complain about the traffic noise, but it really is not that bad, if it does bother you pop in the pub and have four pints of Henry Westons and all will be silent. Good little site with the bonus of friendly pub next door.

FHU grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked My wife and I stayed in our camper for 1 night at four trees campsite which a pub with basic camping facilities such as toilets, showers, water electric and bins. It had everything we needed for our stay and for the price, were happy overall

Disliked The pitches are very close to a main road so we needed to keep the van windows closed all night (where usually we would have them open a little for ventilation) and the pub stopped serving food at 6 (i understand through the summer its later) but this wasn't a huge problem, we would've liked to have had the choice.

From the manager: Thank you for your constructive criticism, In the last 3 years of running the site I do find it strange how people’s opinions differ especially when a couple who had the same dates as you scored us a 8/10 and would recommend, if you are going to leave such a poor review please give a more detailed explanation other than not good.
Thanks Steve

FHU grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked We were in bays 9 & 10. Each bay has a picnic table & electric hook-up. The site has toilet & shower facilities, they were very clean and totally adequate. Yes there is a busy road - this is detailed in the description, but after 10mins its just background noise. Large bin store avaliable for rubbish. Local walks near by. Steve at the pub was very welcoming, and so were all his staff. The pub food was great quality and had a lovely big pub garden. The staff even helped me back to our table outside with drinks (as also had a great dane on the lead). We will be returning.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

National Trust - Biddulph Grange Garden (15 minutes’ drive) was created in the mid-1800s. In addition to peaceful tree-shaded paths, there is a collection of rhododendrons and the colourful Dahlia Walk, plus themed areas like Egypt (with a topiary pyramid) and the China Garden. Alton Towers (35 minutes) has something for everybody, from vertiginous roller coasters and assorted thrill rides to the gentler, family-orientated attractions at CBeebies Land. On hot summer days, you might want to make a beeline for the waterpark, with its high-speed slides and lazy river. Crossed by canals, Stoke-on-Trent (40 minutes) is renowned for its potteries. Check out the collection of locally produced ceramics at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, where you can also admire the Staffordshire Hoard, a collection of gold and silver objects dating back to the Anglo-Saxon era. And be sure to have a go at the pottery wheel in one of several cafés and activity centres in town.
