  • Wild camping on a family-run farm in the Peak District National Park
  • Buxton and Macclesfield both 15 minutes' drive away
  • Farm shop with eggs, meat and honey; regular 'meet the chicks' events
Go wild (almost) in the Peak District National Park – the pitches at Dingers Hollow Farm are designed for those who’d love to go wild camping in the park but want to make sure they stay on the right side of the law. There’s a real rural vibe at this simple pop-up site, which is part of a working farm in the west of the national park, about 15 minutes’ drive from Macclesfield. The back-to-basics pitches are completely off grid, so there’s no electricity connection, no running water and no showers, but you will have access to portable toilets. Being part of a working farm, there’s always something going on and something to see: there are regular ‘meet the chicks’ events throughout the season, and you’ll be able to spot lambs and calves too if you’re here in spring or early summer. There's also a farm shop on site selling eggs, meat, honey and drinks. It’s easy to get out beyond the farm’s walls too: you’ll be right on the route of the Cheshire Three Peaks trail, and footpaths also run from the site to Shutlingsloe and Macclesfield Forest, taking you past fields, lakes and classic drystone walls along the way. Alternatively, follow the route to Three Shires Head (about an hour and a quarter from the farm on foot) for a gorgeous wild swimming spot. As for the practicalities, a couple of pubs are within 10 minutes’ drive, as are a tea room, a gin distillery and an ice cream producer. Macclesfield and Buxton (both 15 minutes’ drive) are handy sources of supplies for your picnics and meals on site (which you can eat at the picnic tables).

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really helpful and friendly owners. Chilled and quiet. Great spot to walk up to Shutlingsloe or explore Macclesfield Forest from.

Alongside the farm animals there's plenty wildlife to spot if you're patient enough. Heron, hare and bats within a couple hundred yards of the site.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked I spent two nights at Dingers Hollow Farm and found it to be a quiet, cozy campsite. There was a lovely farm shop that had just opened and I was able to purchase fresh eggs! The workers I encountered were super friendly and helpful! Cannot fault this beautiful, near wild campsite in the Peak District. It is worth noting, phone reception was basically non-existent so I downloaded all my shows before as this didn’t bother me, I enjoy being unreachable! Would happily return for my next camping trip in the Peaks!
