  • Biker-friendly site on a hill overlooking the Cheshire countryside
  • Five miles from the Peak District and 35 minutes’ drive from Buxton
  • 10-foot firepit on site; barbecues are permitted
High time for a ride to the Cheshire countryside? Then make your way to Avona Escapes, an adults-only, biker-friendly site with just fab views over the countryside. It’s owned by Shez and Graham, two bikers who have been riding for over 20 years. Avona Escapes is a very secure site with full CCTV coverage, so your pride and joys will be safe and sound. It’s a rural area with next to no neighbours, at the top of a hill with views down over the countryside. Alpacas, peacocks, ducks and chickens roam free all over, so don’t be surprised if they pay you a visit sometimes. Shez and Graham have put together a chilled and secure biking stay here. There are modern shower and toilet facilities, as well as a 10-foot firepit for guests to gather around. They allow barbecues, and only ask that you place them on the paving slabs provided. The edge of the Peak District National Park is just five miles away from the site, with Matlock Bath an hour’s drive away and Buxton 35 minutes’ drive away. The Cat and Fiddle Inn, a Peak District distillery in a 17th-century building running tours and tastings, is 25 minutes’ drive away. As you should expect from a place so close to the Peak District, the roads around these parts are just awesome to ride around. If you need anything to snack on, just stop by the many supermarkets on the outskirts of Congleton around 10 minutes’ ride away.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The view was incredible. Loved seeing the peacocks, geese and Alpacas roaming around. The host was very amenable and lovely to chat too. Great location. Stone slabs available for fires.

Disliked: The lights in the toilet kept going off whilst in use and the shower kept turning off as the whole system was solar powered. However, they were kept very clean. The driveway up to the site is very steep and windy.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The campsite was great, hosts were very helpful and made us very comfortable, the animals were so cute! Facilities were great, always good to have clean toilets/showers. Location was good, we managed a great picturesque walk, via a local pub, and some great landmarks. We'll be coming back again.

Disliked: Nothing!

Primitive grass campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We were given a very warm welcome on arrival. Due to the time of year and recent rain it was a bit boggy in places but found a good spot to park and close to the toilets. The toilets and shower blocks were very clean and shower was nice and hot. We went upto the top of the cloud which only takes 10 mins from the site and the views were stunning! Waking up in the morning to 4 alpacas staring at me from behind the camper was a funny start to the day. All the animals on the site are definitely a great feature. We will definitely be returning!

Disliked: The driveway is very steep but we made it up alright in our camper, you just have to go for it and hope nobody is coming down

From the manager: The Alpacas are just soooo nosey! 😀 I am so pleased you enjoyed being here and braved the weather. Parts of the field definitely get a bit squishy, hopefully the rain won't be so heavy and constant this year. You are so right about the drive, it is just a case of going for it, once you have done it a couple of times it gets easier 😁 Thank you for such a lovely review and we hope to see you back with us again soon. Route directions

If you follow Satnav direction, it will bring you to a small layby with three large rocks and a sign for Avona. This is the bottom of the drive. Continue to the top of the drive and then around the back of the house. Continue through the large gate in front of you to the camping field, find a space and pitch up. Keep an eye out for wet ground near the pond if it has been raining. The owners will greet you when you arrive, or if they aren’t there, they’ll visit at some point.
