South-facing views

  • Peaceful site on a south-facing farm with scenic views of Cheshire
  • A 10-minute drive to Tattenhall village and 20 minutes to Chester
  • Home-laid eggs available from a small on-site essentials shop
Up for a serene stay in north-west England? Swoop down to Swallow Farm Campsite and check out the Cheshire countryside from this small and peaceful dog-friendly park in the tiny hamlet of Hargrave. A stay here is certainly a scenic option – parts of the grounds have views out across to Beeston and Peckforton castles (both under a 15-minute drive away), and a little further on is Chester, which you can reach on an hourly public bus from near the park (20 minutes’ ride). The famed Chester Zoo is just north of the city (25 minutes’ drive) and the Chester Racecourse takes about the same time to reach. For food after a flutter on the horses, Tattenhall village’s restaurants and pubs – some serving tapas, Indian and Chinese cuisine – are a 10-minute drive away; a small convenience shop is here as well. Logs are sold on site and you can pick up home-laid free-range eggs from the small on-site shops which has essentials. Hungry for more? A pub serving meals is less than a five-minute drive away. The Ice Cream Farm is about the same distance if you’re craving dessert (surely always); when stopping here, burn off any calories consumed on walks alongside the nearby canal. Swallow Farm Campsite is also close to hiking and cycling routes for exploring more of the local lands and has essential facilities such as two toilets and a shower as well as a dishwashing area.

What customers say

A top-rated, small, family-friendly campground with superb hosts. Reviewers rave about spotless facilities, roomy, level sites, and farm animal interactions. It’s a secure, car-free haven for kids. Owners' warm welcome is a constant highlight. Limited showers aren't an issue given the size. Peaceful, near attractions.

Liked Swallow farm is such a calm, happy place, you instantly feel welcome from Colin and Tracey and pip the dog, also all the animals come to say hello, even before you set up, the kindness shines through. We had a lovely pitch, lots of space facing the castles with a sunrise each morning and beautiful moon each night. Facilities are great, always very clean and my little girl loved the toys and especially the go kart they have. Colin and Tracey allow encourage all the children to help feed the animals and the children love it, all taking turns, it is so kind to go that extra step, very thoughtful. My little girl, fed chickens, alpacas, goats, sheep and groomed crunchie the pony, she was in her element. She also loved throwing the ball to pip and giving her a stroke, even though she can be quite nervous around dogs, pip is so calm she was quite content around her which made my day. Lots to do in the area, we went to the ice cream farm, beeston castle, bewilderwood and snugberys. Thankyou for such a lovely stay, we will see you next year, xxx

Liked This is our third visit to Swallow Farm Campsite, and once again we’ve had a fantastic stay. It’s a lovely, peaceful campsite in a beautiful setting, with plenty of space and everything you need for a relaxing break.
Tracey and Colin are brilliant owners friendly, welcoming and always happy to help. You can tell they genuinely care about the campsite and the people staying there, which makes such a difference.
We’ve enjoyed every visit so far, and this one has been just as good as the first two. It’s become one of those places where you know you’ll have a great time and can properly switch off.
Another 10/10 from us. We’ll definitely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Local attractions

Kid-friendly activities out in nature aren’t far from this site: the Crocky Trail, a mile-long adventure path including slides and rope swings, is five minutes’ drive away, and the nearby former royal Beeston Castle (10 minutes' drive) transports small visitors (and larger ones) back to the 1220s with its turreted architecture. Set on a sandstone crag 350 feet higher than the Cheshire Plain, this spot also has plenty of winsome views for the grownups to sigh over; other scenic places in the area include Chester’s amphitheatre and Roman walls left over from the settlement's beginnings as a first-century fortress (20 minutes). The city also houses the Rows, a shopping street covered in handsome half-timbered buildings and partly covered arcades. Just north (25 minutes) is the unmissable Chester Zoo, one of the best and biggest in Britain with animal enclosures covering an area of 125 acres. This centre is the home of all sorts of creatures, ranging from the aardvark to the zebra, with some of the most popular being the tigers, lions and jaguars.
