  • Well-equipped countryside park 12 miles from Chester
  • Award-winning amenities, plenty of space and Chester Zoo ticket sales
  • Seasonal pool, fishing lakes, tennis, play area, games and café
Some people prefer to keep their holidays very basic and remote indeed. Some people do not – and seek a spot with excellent leisure facilities, spotless amenities and customer-friendly approach… the better to get on with the important aspects of a holiday without stressing about the essentials. If this too is you, make your way to Manor Wood Country Park in green Cheshire countryside, where there’s loads to do on site, and where the amenities are so immaculate they’ve been given awards. Off site is pretty pleasing too, as Manor Wood is an easily accessible 25 minutes’ drive from Chester, Chester Castle and Chester Racecourse – and Chester Zoo, so say the kids, who’ll doubtless point out that their grownups can buy zoo tickets on site too. The park is in a nicely rural setting, home to two fishing lakes that adults and families can cast off at, and to a vast range of leisurely options indoors and out. The outdoor pool is open from the beginning of May through to September (whatever the weather), a climbing frame and play area are in the grounds and a games room with pool, table football and table tennis is indoors to take care of any inclement times. Back outside, tennis courts are available free of charge to all customers. A minute’s drive or half a mile’s stroll from Coddington, Manor Wood is surrounded by Cheshire and Nottinghamshire villages to pick up local produce and picnic bits and pieces. Make time/room too for a foray to the Lakeside Café on several occasions during your stay, for breakfast, snacks and light lunches to have indoors or outside while the kids investigate the play area; the café building also has free wifi, takeaway options and a small shop selling essentials and caravan supplies. Dogs are welcome too... so much so that they have their own section on the menu... Those who prefer things just a little quieter on their countryside holiday are invited to book from Monday to Friday in low season, to soak up the peaceful Cheshire surrounds in a more peaceful manner.

What customers say

This well-kept spot earns praise for its clean, modern facilities, friendly staff, and abundant kids' activities like a popular heated outdoor pool and play areas. Guests enjoy spacious pitches, good Wi-Fi, and a picturesque setting with fishing lakes. While mostly positive, some noted minor concerns like needing more frequent toilet cleaning during peak times and limited cafe hours. Highly recommended for family trips.

Liked Loved the pitch that I was given. Close to everything I needed with a child.

Disliked The washing machines appeared to not tally with times on the machine to how much you put in your cover the wash.

Liked Clean and high quality facilities, lots of things for kids to do, beautiful pitches and environment, friendly staff, secure and safe site.

Disliked The ground could be hard in sections and made it difficult when pulling pegs back out after the rain.

Liked Toilet block close by was convenient, nice view of the pond, site was kept nice looking, pool was a nice temperature and size along with plenty of seating along side of pool, hairdryers we're good , temperature of showers was decent. The walk around the outside of the campsite was a nice touch with info boards about wildlife.

Disliked Disliked the low amp power outlets for camping as was advertised as 8 amp and turned out to be 6 amp and because of this our kettle would trip it out after 4 seconds of being on so had to flick on and of every 2 seconds which was Very annoying over a 6 day stay! Reception just said it was our kettle that was at fault ( definitely not as at our next camp site it works flawless along with other electrics running ) so 100% definitely the hook up point at fault !

Some of the facilities are not really inspected very well, mens toilet on the toilet block near pond missing the lock so impossible to go do your business.

Soap dispensers on the first couple of days we're empty.

Dish washing area is far from the camping area near pond, made rather awkward and it would be good if another could be installed near the toilet block.

We didn't know until we got there that there was a booking in system for the pool with a 45 minute slot available each day per plot.

The park was great for younger children but not so much for older (ours are 9 and 12)

Liked Stayed for two nights in our motor home with 2 children 4 & 10. We were on a gravel pitch directly opposite the park, which I will say was brilliant, this park was fab for both children! Especially the big slide on there! Pool is small, clean and tidy and perfect for its use, wasn’t cold-booking was done on reception for a 45 minute slot. The dog walk around the perimeter is a welcome bonus, you’ll see plenty of wildlife, including some rather large hare’s! Toilet and showering facilities were clean, the family shower we used in the ladies was very helpful with having two showers and plenty of space to change.
Park overall is nice and quiet, everyone we came across was lovely! My children would return tomorrow, so I’d say we will be making a return visit!

Disliked The only downside to the stay would be the amount of wasps, so id recommend taking some fly spray, as the amount of them was like nothing I’ve seen on our pitch. Obviously this is nothing on the park, just a little tip for anyone to keep in mind.

Liked Really nice site in a great location.

Lots of water and chemical waste disposal points. The grounds are beautiful and really well maintained. Toilets and showers were very clean and nice hot water in the shower. We didn't try the cafe or food but the pizzas that we say being taken away looked lovely.

Disliked Pool - the pool area is looking quite tired and dated so some investment here is needed. I would also like to see maybe the first hour or last hour of the pool opening times to be for adults only who actually want to swim. The pool is full of children playing which is nice to see but means those who want to swim can't.

A couple of site rules didn't seem to be enforced mainly cars on pitches and quiet hours past 10pm. I personally don't mind noise until 10:30pm but if you have site rules they need to be enforced otherwise it's pointless having them.

Local attractions

There’s plenty to do around Manor Wood for those days you’re not mooching around Chester (although do mooch around Chester for some considerable time too.) Drive about five minutes’ south for walks around the green space lying between Stretton and Clutton; a golf course and Stretton Watermill are here to stop off at. Beeston Castle, 20 minutes’ drive away just outside Tarporley, is a site of fortress ruins on a sandstone plain with spectacular views – across eight counties and over to Wales. Kids now revolting after watermill and castle time? The rides, farm and many flavours of The Ice Cream Farm adventure park are within 15 minutes’ drive.
