The campsite
Camping field surrounded by greenery

  • Pop-up family campsite with countryside views in South Yorkshire
  • Peak District National Park five minutes’ drive; Sheffield 20 minutes
  • Grass pitches at Sheffield Tigers RUFC; space for kids' pup tents
Sports-mad families can jump at the chance to camp at South Yorkshire’s Sheffield Tigers Rugby Union Football Club ground on the outskirts of Sheffield. Pitches are on a level meadow with views towards the Peak District National Park, and there’s plenty of space for pup tents if the kids need a bit of extra room. This leafy pop-up site is springboard to hiking, cycling or climbing expeditions in the spectacular Peak District (five minutes’ drive), but if you prefer your camping holiday with a more urban vibe, turn north and head into Sheffield city centre (20 minutes) for department stores, ambles in the Winter Garden, museums, cinemas and theatre. Changing rooms and shower facilities are also available, and there’s ample space for car parking too.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Location to Sheffield city

Disliked I booked and stayed at the club Friday and Saturday night just gone.

Just a few things.. and we weren’t expecting much, but I feel there’s a *few* things that were sub standard and feel the price paid, is unjustified.

1- The field hadn’t been mowed for quite some time (rugby pitch had)
2-Large pile of wood just scattered in the middle of the field
3-Very deep hole (approx 50cm) right by our tent - had to fill with a number of bricks from the pile of rubble within the field
4- Bearing in mind your advert states ‘family campsite’ - let alone all of the above not being very family friendly, we also weren’t informed of the wedding that was due to take place, and have music on until 5am! (The groom was also unaware us other campers would be in the field)
5- Showers were not only disgusting, not cleaned since the last rugby match, dried mud all over the floor, but showers weren’t working in either changing room 1 or 2 either, a measly cold dribble
5- Men’s toilets were revolting, my children were unable to stay in there to brush their teeth.
No toilet roll by Sunday morning.
6- Advert states washing up area and picnic bench of which we had no clue where these were
7- Drinking water tap hidden behind a generator, had to scramble over debris and pipes to reach it

Overall we are extremely displeased. As I say we weren’t expecting a proper campsite, we understand it’s a rugby club, however we are a bit bemused that it was available to book online when there was a wedding on that weekend anyhow, let alone the other points.
Theres a lot of things that need addressing before you can advertise this is a campsite at all, let alone a family one.

I am also displeased that you took my number and just added me to a group to provide information, I do not wish for my number to be shared with other people I do not know.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The person who runs it was nice and very detailed. There were also other people about, also nice, who were very helpful.

Disliked You have to hold the taps for them to work, including the shower one, which makes it hard to shower.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked If you want quiet, peacefull, deers running through the field. This is a great place to camp. We were there from Friday - Monday and only saw 2 other campers on seprate occasions, the site is close to a local bus route that is walking distance that goes into sheffield city centre and a pub down the road also in walking distance. It has showers and toilets available. We enjoyed staying here.

Disliked As the toilets and showers are for the rugby club you can imagine what they are like. We were very much aware what we was coming up against. The showers were cold and abit messy when we arrived but generally we wasnt to bothered on the coldness as it was warm but i can imagine its not pleasent in the colder months. The toilets were bleached and cleaned which was good. But one of the toilets needed maintainance as when you sit on it it moved and water was around the base. Even though these are dislikes it didnt stop us staying and possibly staying again if needed in future. The rugby cafe toilets were alot better which we used when we couldnt use the rugby club toilets.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked It's a camp space with indoor showers and bathrooms.
Location nearer walking trails than the city.
I feel for the rugby club because it could really work for the right people.
It would be a great place for a group of friends.
When I sent a couple of text messages I received replies quickly; the email mentioned replies maybe slow so that was really helpful.

Disliked I didn't look into this site enough before booking.
The worst thing was being the only person on site camping; it felt odd and unsafe- though nothing went wrong, I left after the 1st night.
People come and go to use other onsite facilities.
The noise from the road could be heard most of the night.
As someone says, it's a rugby club, the camping is a bit of a side hustle.
There's only shared showers, no cubicles.
I ran the water when I arrived for several minutes but it didn't warm up.
I am not sure why I didn't receive the map after booking this would have saved me some time on arrival.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked It was an easy process booking, field looked pleasant enough to camp on, if it were not for the beer festival.

Disliked Had this booked as a stop over for the Bank Holiday weekend with my children, partner and dogs. However, we did not actually stay because when we arrived we were met with signs for a beer festival on site. Had I known this prior I would not have booked and wasted £80. We knew we would not be comfortable staying so opted to book and stay at an alternative location.
Had it not been for the beer festival we would have happily stayed, I feel like this should have been disclosed during the booking process.
