  • Well-maintained caravan in spectacular South Yorkshire countryside
  • Yorkshire Sculpture Park 10 minutes’ drive; Holmfirth 20 minutes
  • Set on a working family farm with livestock; forest walks from site
For a peaceful escape on a South Yorkshire farm, the cosy static caravan at Winter Hill Grange takes some beating. As well as spectacular views over valleys and forest to stately Cannon Hall and Cannon Hall Farm (as seen on TV), it’s surrounded by fields and your only neighbours will be Aberdeen Angus cows, grazing sheep (with lambs in spring) and lots of peacocks, turkeys, ducks and hens. Cosy living accommodation includes double and twin bedrooms with ensuites and storage, comfy seating for lazy days, and a compact dining area next to the kitchen corner. Outside there’s a small pond area (safely fenced off so it’s no problem if you’re travelling with toddlers) that’s home to the farm’s contingent of ducks, plus a maze of footpaths leading straight into woodland. Access to this snug little retreat is through a wide gateway, with a lane leading directly to the parking area. As the caravan is close to the main yard on a working family farm, dogs are not allowed on site.

What customers say

Highly recommended farm stay w/ stunning views & peaceful vibes. Guests loved clean, comfy caravans w/ extras like fresh eggs. Owners were friendly, and farm animal interaction was a hit. Minor WiFi/decor issues were overshadowed by the overwhelmingly positive experience & desire to return. Great for exploring!

Liked The most stunning view! Clean and comfortable with pretty much all you need to self cater. Great couple of walks from the caravan through the ‘fairy’ wood.
Good shower and facilities for two adults and a small one. It was a lovely touch to have fresh farm eggs for our breakfasts. Beautifully quiet at night and with lots of things to entertain nearby during the day.

Liked The caravan had everything we needed and was a good size. The location was close to several interesting museums such as the national mining museum and fairly close to Eureka. There was a lovely walk from the caravan through some woods. It was very peaceful at night.

Disliked This wasn't a problem for our family but it's important to understand that the caravan is on a working Farm, might not be suitable for young children without danger awareness.

Liked Beautiful views that's the first thing what you will see when you arrive.
The caravan is lovely, kept in a very good condition, with lots of utensils and cleaning stuff to make sure you house is clean whenever something happens - for someone like that was a really pleasent surprise.
The owners are very nice and very carrying about your stay.
I would definitely recommend and considering coming back.

Liked The setting is beautiful and peaceful and the view is lovely. The accommodation was clean and we really appreciated the eggs that were left for us. Rachel kept in touch and gave us very good directions and instructions for opening the gate etc I was a bit cold but soon warmed up after putting the gas fire on.

Disliked The decor could do with updating but wasn't very important to us.

Liked Wonderfully clean caravan with excellent facilities, gorgeous outdoor space that is fenced and safe for children. Breathtaking views are all included. The kids enjoyed visiting the horses and cows in the farm. Also, we were grateful for the extra touches, such as cereal and fresh eggs. There are many things to do in the area as we enjoyed the walk path in that area. The cost is reasonable and booking was very easy.

Disliked The water heater was not functional when we were there. Perhaps we couldn't switch it on. We weren't particularly bothered, but I'm sure it would have been fixed if we had reported it. Moreover, we were unclear if it is permissible to use the barbecue items that we brought in on site. All in all, the stay was memorable and would highly recommend, thank you!!

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
I also found that the hot water was not working when i went to clean the caravan after you had left. It had worked when I had cleaned it prior to your arrival. On looking at the boiler in the cupboard to the left as you enter the caravan I found that the dial had been turned down, hence the reason there was no hot water. As this had worked prior to your arrival, the only explanation is that one of your party turned the dial down. A simple turn of the dial and I was able to continue cleaning the caravan for the next guests.
Although our listing states no barbecues are allowed we are happy for you to discuss this and provided this is done safely it can be agreed.

Liked Amazing views, lovely clean caravan which was very welled equipped and nice outdoor area which is securely fenced. We appreciated the extra touches - cereal & fresh eggs - and the kids loved going to see the chickens & horses. There's lots to do nearby, we visited the neighbouring farm for milkshake & spent a day at Whistlestop Valley.

Disliked Wifi didn't work during our stay. We didn't report it so I'm sure it would have been resolved but we weren't really bothered. I know it might be important to some though.

Liked Brilliant place to use as a base when visiting the area with beautiful views from the caravan. Well equipped caravan and friendly faces from a slightly different kind of setting.

Disliked The wifi didn't work for us but we had our own.

From the manager: Thank you for the review, much appreciated.
We are working on the Wifi right now and this should be rectified by the end of next week. We have Satellite Wifi which is excellent, but, doesn't quite extend to the caravans and therefore has been intermittent. This will be wired underground to the caravans early next week thanks to Stix Internet, our rural internet service provider.

Liked Great host, beautiful views from the caravan and we loved the farm animals ❤️ the caravan was super clean and had everything you’d need for a few nights stay!

Disliked Unfortunately the WiFi wasn’t working but as we’ve only stayed a couple of night it wasn’t a big issue for us

Local attractions

For bracing family walks, head for spectacular Emley Moor (10 minutes’ drive) to get up close to Yorkshire’s own Eiffel Tower – aka Emley Moor TV mast, the tallest free-standing structure in the UK, which towers 1,080 ft above the surrounding heathland. For ambles among other man-made installations, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (also 10 minutes) has ever-changing alfresco sculpture exhibitions set in green parkland. Yorkshire’s industrial heritage looms large, with guided walks down a former pit and tours of colliery machinery at the National Coal Mining Museum for England (15 minutes). You can also explore the former mining village, craft workshops and historic steam railway at Elsecar Heritage Centre (25 minutes). Most kids will adore the chance to chuff through the countryside on a vintage steam train from Whistlestop Valley (10 minutes), and on chillier days, you can keep yourselves occupied on the pirate-themed waterslides at Barnsley Metrodome Waterpark (20 minutes). If you need inspiration for more family days out, Cannon Hall Farm (five minutes) has small animals to cuddle and a soft-play centre for younger kids, and there are endangered polar bears, big cats and rhinos to spot on a walk-through safari at Yorkshire Wildlife Park (50 minutes).
