  • Fully furnished bell tent on a hilltop with views of the Cheviot Hills
  • A 15-minute drive to Derwent Reservoir; 20 minutes to Hadrian’s Wall
  • Well-behaved dogs welcome; walks, cycle routes and gastropub nearby
High up on a hilltop over the village of Hedley on the Hill and with views over the Cheviot Hills, Cheviot View is a bell tent in a private enclosed paddock. It’s just the place for a romantic retreat or a family getaway in the Tyne Valley (and well-behaved dogs and kids are very welcome to come along too). The large, fully furnished and luxurious bell tent has its own picnic bench, barbecue and firepit (alfresco dining, anyone?). You’ll have the whole paddock to yourself, aside from the odd hare or cows and horses in neighbouring paddocks. Sitting on top of the hill, the site experiences sublime sunsets followed by dark skies excellent for stargazing too. While the site may be off grid, they’ve gone all out to make sure that the stay is one to remember. There’s a comfy bed, quality bedding, easy-to-use chairs, plenty of cushions and throws, a fully-working range stove oven and a hot water heater to ensure that you stay toasty your entire stay. The site supplies all cookware, crockery and utensils too. Guests have exclusive use of a portable toilet. There isn’t any running water in the paddock currently, but the site will supply you with plenty of fresh water daily. Should you need any more, just let them know and they’ll be there in a jiffy. The friendly owners will greet you and show you where to park your car when you arrive; it’s a short walk (or a lift in their four-wheel drive) to the bell tent, which is lit up at night by solar-powered fairy lights. They’ll also hand over a complimentary welcome pack (send any dietary requirements in advance, please). The energy will come in handy for all the splendid woodland walks and cycle routes nearby, watersports on Derwent Reservoir (15 minutes’ drive) or hiking along Hadrian’s Wall (20 minutes).

Bell tent

Liked: From the morning we were due to arrive, Aileen could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The location and the facilities are unbelievable, we were lucky with the weather, even if we had been unlucky the tent had everything we could have needed to bunker down.

Disliked: Nothing

Bell tent

Liked: The hosts were fantastic from beginning to end. The bell tent was immaculate and had everything we needed for our short stay. Truly off grid, located in its own field with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The beds were comfy and we were very snug with no complaints. The welcome pack was a nice touch we all enjoyed and something for us all. The tent is a short walk from the village and is well located for walks and attractions in the area. If you're looking to go back to basics then this is the place to go, with some lovely perks thrown in. We were supplied with a bbq and a fireplace and plenty of water. For fussy folk like me who have to wash and not rely on baby wipes, with a bit of boiled water I managed to get a good wash! Our devices were charged by the car so no worries on the Internet front for the kids.

Bell tent

Liked: Had a fabulous stay at Cheviot view. The set up had everything we need to a comfortable stay, the hamper basket was delicious, and the views were amazing. The owners were very solicitous of our comfort and went the extra mile to make sure we were taken care of. Couldn't recommend it enough!
