  • Simple and scenic rural site a mile from the Yorkshire coast
  • A mile from Hayburn Wyke waterfall; Scarborough 15 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes' walk from the Cinder Track path and a pub
Few things in this world can compare to flitting around the Yorkshire coast. Toing and froing between Scarborough's seaside scenes to Whitby's clifftop abbey is best done by bike along the Cinder Track, an old railway that runs through the green surrounds of the North York Moors National Park along easy flat terrain. And when it comes to finding somewhere to rest your head after all that pedalling? The Hulleys Campsite could well be the answer. This simple and scenic rural site is set a few minutes' walk from that traffic-free bike trail and 10 minutes from a local pub. On top of that, The Hulleys Campsite is within easy strolling distance of the coast (roughly a mile from base), where the splendid Hayburn Wyke waterfall makes a very pretty backdrop for picnics, walks and general seaside frolicking. It's a five-minute drive from these spacious pitches into the village of Cloughton, where a couple more pubs and a farm shop are on hand to keep you fed and watered during your stay. For supermarkets and a wider range of restaurants, steer yourself towards Scarborough (15 minutes). The Hulleys Campsite prides itself on keeping camping here simple. The facilities reflect that, with low-key but functional toilets and showers. Dogs, barbecues, commercial vehicles and student groups are all welcome.

Camping pod

Liked Great location high above sea level with beautifull view miles away. Quite and peaceful place. Pod separated from pitches area with bushes, giving some additional privacy. Pod itself as described. Well maintained large lawn around it. Additionally 3 folding chairs and barbeque provided. Basic campsite facilities as described. Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked Great site with huge grass pitches and awesome views. The facilities are basic but had everything we needed and the charging points are a great touch. We camped with our 18 month old for his first time and had the best time. The location is great for Hayburn Wyke and the very nice pub on the way. We will absolutely be coming back and will recommend to friends and family.

Liked Simple, basic site that gave everything I needed for a night away near the coast. Great location with views towards the sea. Self check-in made it easy just to get on with setting up on an empty pitch. Would definitely return in the future.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked Quiet, well kept, spacious pitches. Great value for money in a quiet part of North Yorkshire.
Facilities include toilets and showers, fresh water, freezer, charging point.
Nearby walks to the pub, waterfall, beach and along the old railway line.
Tip: pitches further away from the toilet block have the best views.

Local attractions

Planning a trip to Scarborough is easy, as Britain's first ever seaside resort is a mere 15-minute drive to the south. Donkey rides, Victorian buildings like the Spa, sticks of rock and amusement arcades are all available here, as are two sweeping sandy beaches, the Asian-inspired landscapes of Peasholm Park and Oliver's Mount, a large wooded hill 500 metres above the town with a well-stocked fishing lake and fantastic far-reaching vistas. Whitby (half an hour) is the other must-see town in the area, but this part of Yorkshire is peppered with other sights too – there’s Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (40 minutes) with its nesting birds and beaches, Sewerby Hall and Gardens (45 minutes) for tours round a historic country pile, Flamingo Land Resort (50 minutes) for adrenaline and excitement… Want to focus on the North York Moors National Park? Ride out on mountain bikes through Dalby Forest (35 minutes), step among the scenic stones of Rievaulx Abbey (an hour and 10 minutes) or get down to the village of Goathland (30 minutes) to see the Mallyan Spout waterfall and a train station that featured in the Harry Potter films.
