General

  • Small family-run site under the Hambleton hills
  • Secluded and level with uninterrupted views
  • Café, shop and homemade cakes

This is a small, family-run site, set on the former Husthwaite Gate railway station, under the Hambleton hills and the famed White Horse at Kilburn.

The site is secluded and level, well sheltered but with great uninterrupted views over the local landscape. The owners welcome groups and extended families.

The owners have been moving everything on site towards a sustainable energy strategy; their philosophy is to reuse and recycle. Amenities include an electric shower and a toilet facility (using green electricity from the on-site wind turbine). Play your own part in eco proceedings by purchasing wood on site to fire up the large wood-fired hot tub for a relaxing sesh.

There's also a small shop and honesty café area with basic supplies such as beans, local sausages, fresh farm eggs, bacon, drinks, ice creams, sweets and chocolates. There is also tea, coffee and homemade cakes for you to try.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The maximum campervan size permitted is 16ft (4.9m) long by 6ft (2m) wide.

Only thing that I disliked was I couldnt use the hot tub, just couldnt get it to warm up past 20 degrees, owner explained that it had a small leak and shouldnt affect the usage but, unfortunately it did.

Just stayed at the site with 4 other people this weekend and had a thoroughly enjoyable time throughout. Everything in the accommodation was absolutely excellent and to a very high standard. Martin and Teena were excellent hosts in the run up to and during the weekend itself. Honesty shop is well stocked and brilliant quality. Walks around Husthwaite are lovely. Hot Tub is excellent and sleeping accommodation is spacious, comfortable and was exactly what we needed. Already recommended it to others and hope to return there soon in the future!

We didnt like, we loved the entire experience. It was a beautiful place to stay, really something very special indeed. We cannot wait to return.
The den was beautifully decorated, homely, cosy and rather luxurious to boot! We as a family loved every minute of it!

We came here following a recommendation from friends and we in turn will fully recommend this to others and we would happily come back to this Eco friendly site. A little gem in the countryside with a fully equipped kitchen for our self catered stay from salt and pepper to a wide range of cookery items along with a welcome back of goodies. Spacious open plan living/dinning area which even when fully occupied would still leave plenty of room for all. Bathroom extension is well designed and warm, again with complementally knickknacks, plentiful towels and a shaving mirror. We made full use of the barbecue, fire pit and hot tub with its views across open fields. A wood burner warms the water in the tub and as we were warned can reach temperatures above the safety guidelines we were given, so double check before going in. Bedrooms as the photos suggest are a snug fit with the king size beds filling them, not a great problem as the beds are very comfortable. However it is a clamber in and out of the beds and some may find it impossible if they suffer from any kind of physical impairment so enquire first. All in all a very well thought out accommodation with helpful information sheets and owners who are only to willing to share their knowledge of the area.

On arrival, the owner was there to greet us and show us around. We had high expectations from the pictures we had seen online and we weren’t disappointed, the decor and layout were perfect with such attention to detail. As a family, we have stopped in a few similar places and have learnt to always pack basics that often get overlooked however, these weren’t needed on this break, everything we needed (and more) had been thought of.
The area itself suited us perfectly, located close enough to some nice local eateries and surrounded by beautiful countryside for a circular walk from the Den and back.
I cannot recommend a stay here enough, needless to say we will definitely be returning.

The location is perfect; peaceful and scenic but within easy reach of loads to do in local towns and villages as well as York with all it has to offer.

There were 5 adults in our party and we had ample space and were very comfy. The Den is thoughtfully kitted out and beautifully decorated.

The weather was glorious so we stayed up late and had a starry night by the fire pit. It would be lovely to go back in the winter and test out the cosy stove.

The owners were very helpful and were on hand with advice of what to see and do if we needed them.
We are looking forward to our next visit.
