  • Family-run for over 30 years
  • Among pretty views in the North York Moors National Park
  • Bistro, café, large play area and plenty of room for ball games
Drink in the views for quite some time at Flask Holiday Park near Whitby... then drink them in some more, for this friendly family-run site is among scenery you'll surely find spectacular. Countryside, sea and moorland scenes await here: Flask is within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but of course), and its Fylingdales and Blacksmiths Hill setting is near Robin Hoods Bay on the Whitby to Scarborough road. Carve out time to tramp this splendid part of coast, via the bus to Scarborough that stops right outside the site entrance, or by driving up to Whitby 15 minutes north, or south to Filey, Bridlington and the screeching seabirds of Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve... Flask has been owned and run by the same family for over 30 years, who know their holiday park stuff inside out: they've added a big play park with loads of space for ball games – since happy/tired kids = chuffed parents... There's a bistro and café among the park facilities too, serving breakfast, bistro bites and snacks all day; guests are most welcome to bring their own booze as well. A small book exchange is also on offer (in the well-equipped laundry room), along with heaps of tourist info, detailed local maps and the daily papers. Supplies are easily sorted at the local garage, which has a finely rounded selection of frozen food, grocery essentials and car and caravan bits.

Local attractions

Book for as long as you can get away with, for this part of North Yorkshire (and the rest of the county) is a fab spot for activities and attractions to suit all sorts. Your outdoor adventuring schedule could include hikes or bike rides across the moors or around the coast; golf, putting, tennis and bowling nearby, or orienteering and rambling in Dalby Forest, half an hour's drive from the park. There's more hiking to be had along the Cleveland Way on its 109-mile run from the moors to the coast; pick it up in Scarborough to ramble down to the finishing point at Filey. For attractions, take your pick from historic houses, steam railways and a whole heap more: suggestions include the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, 40 minutes' drive away at Pickering, the Heartbeat country of Goathland (25 minutes), or toothy experiences, the famed abbey and the also-famed fish and chips of Whitby. Scarborough's Alpamare UK waterpark is 15 minutes away.
