Scarborough or Whitby – which one’s best? Book a stay at Scalby Tops and you’ll be able to decide for yourself easily enough. This adults-only North Yorkshire site is for tents and small campervans only. It's a five-minute drive from Scarborough’s North Bay beach and next to the Cinder Track for traffic-free walks or bike rides up to Whitby (perhaps stopping at Robin Hood’s Bay along the way too…) Such proximity to Scarborough also puts plenty more things within easy reach, including entertainment options including the Sea Life Centre, the golf course and the open-air theatre, and everyday essentials like shops, restaurants and fish and chip shops (surely an essential on any seaside holiday?) In fact you don’t have to stray far at all to feed yourselves around here – there are a couple of pubs within a few minutes’ walk, along with a bar and café at the local rugby club two minutes’ walk away. Guests can also grab 10% off in the rugby club café, as well as get a reduced-price daily gym pass and free racquet hire for the squash courts there too. When you’re not out and about exploring this fabulous coastline, you’ll be staying at a large pop-up site with scenic countryside views. Pitches are pleasingly spacious and have access to drinking water, a clean portable toilet and an Elsan point. Showers are available at the Scarborough Rugby Club next door, 200 metres from the site entrance (so please note that that are no showers directly on site). Groups are welcome, but no pets or animals are permitted on site.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great campsite in a perfect location. Walking distance from lovely pubs and very accessible into Scarborough. It is basic as it says on the listing but we had an ideal pitch, it was quiet and we were easily able to use the showers at the rugby club a 5 minute walk away.

John was very helpful and definitely went above and beyond for us!

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked It’s a flat field. No mess just call them on arrival and they let you in. No frills just simple park up,sleep then leave.

Disliked Needs to be a touch cheaper and better sign from road.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked This is a great space not far from the main area of Scarborough. The views around the site are stunning and there is plenty of space within each pitch to set up a large table and sit out to watch the sun set.
The owner is a great guy who took an interest in ensuring all was to my expectations. It's great value, I'd recommend it highly.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The campsite has amazing views and the host is really lovely! He gave us recommendations and was always there if we needed a hand. He also rents out fire pits for £5. The pitches are individual so you have your own space. We stayed for 2 nights and used the showers and cafe at the rugby club which was great too.

Disliked Nothing, everything was great!

From the manager: Thank you Jess - really appreciate your review. Hope to see you guys back again.

Primitive grass campervan campsite

Liked The man who greeted us was friendly.
The field was clean with short grass.
The portaloo was clean.
It is taxi distance from the Open Air Theatre.

Disliked I don't enjoy being critical but I want to be honest so other campers know what they are booking.
This isn't yet a proper campsite - it's just a field with a portaloo and tap. No showers or anything else (although there is work being done to set up a washing up area). The traffic noise is quite noticeable- its on a road into Scarborough.
It was thus too expensive for what it was, but handy for the gig we went to.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback Samantha. As clearly stated on Pitchup.com and the welcome email, the site is just a field with basic facilities. Location, Location, Location is the premium for being close to the Open Air Theatre - but I agree the traffic noise can be annoying during rush hour. Luckily, most people are out enjoying the sights of Scarborough or the vibes from the Open Air Theatre during most busy times, and so the road is usually quiet during sleeping hours. Showers are availble at the rugby club (200m away) for £1 (as also stated on Pitchup.com and the welcome email).

All potential customers - please read the information on pitchup carefully. If you're looking for a short stay, basic site, close to Scarborough and the Open Air Theatre - then we might hit what you're looking for. If you're more of the 'glamping type' and like swanky shower blocks, laundry rooms, EHU etc .... then stay well clear! :)

Thanks, John

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The site is splendid and have visited a few times now and shall keep returning. The pitches are great and you have your own space without the worry of someone pitching up next to you. It’s quiet and a well managed and looked after site by John who is very approachable and makes sure you’re ok and should you need anything he’s on hand.
Overall a fantastic site which I hope doesn’t change too much and get commercialised.

From the manager: Many thanks David - really appreciate the feedback and photos! See you next time.
