Pitching up by a pub – that’s always a fine idea. Settle in for a tasty dinner, and as many drinks as you wish, then simply stroll across the garden to get to your bed without any worries over who’s going to drive. And it’s an even finer idea if the pub in question is a cosy, friendly place like the Providence Inn in the village of Yedingham, around a 15-minute drive from Malton. There’s a cheery Yorkshire welcome for all guests here, be they families, groups, couples or single travellers – the folk on site just request that all visitors respect each other (and the neighbours) by keeping the hubbub down after midnight. (Please do note that there is likely to be a bit of noise from the pub/beer garden in the evenings though – such is the way with pubs…) Life here is pretty relaxed and informal – guests can pick their pitches, and are welcome to light up barbecues or build fires in firepits (as long as they're kept off the grass). Along with basic bathroom facilities (cleaned twice daily), there’s access to the River Derwent for those who’ve brought along a fishing licence and asked permission. Pike are the most likely catch, but there have been sightings of other slippery species around here too. And so to dinner… home-cooked food is served seven days a week in the pub (you're advised to book in advance for meals, and take note that on Sundays, the kitchen closes at 5pm), and it gets a thumbs up from the locals, who have been known to drive a considerable number of miles to get their dinner here. There’s a good-sized beer garden for alfresco drinks on fine days, and a generous play area to keep kids entertained while the grownups nurse their drinks nearby.

Liked Fair price and easy to find a spot and pitch up after nipping in to the bar to pay. Clean shower and toilets and kids play areas was good. All good 👍. Ideal for a quick stop for a night or two or as a base for days out in Scarborough, pickering, the moors etc

Disliked No local shops so make sure you have everything before you get there

The road can be a bit noisy with boy racers at night

Not camping related but, they inside refused to cook beef (incase there wasnt enough for dinners the next day or something along them lines) for a baguette that was on the menu. Not a big deal as we chose alternative meals which were delicious (steak pie was superb) but if you dont want to cook and serve something then take it off the menu

Liked Spacious pitches. We were fortunate to have the water tap close by. We were allowed to stay a few hours longer than the departure time which made the day more relaxed.

Disliked I was extremely disappointed to find that there was no water tap at the chemical disposal point meaning I was unable to rinse out my toilet cassette.
The door was on a spring and kept closing, plunging me into darkness as the movement sensor on the light was useless.

Liked Great location, nice small site so nothing too big or noisy. Park for the kids was a bonus. Great food and service from the pub.
Toilets and showers were clean.

Liked Small, relaxed and friendly site with a nice playground for kid. The pub itself is a lovely, traditional old inn, very welcoming and serving nice home cooked food. Bank holiday Sunday there was live music outside creating a great atmosphere.

Disliked Only one toilet for the ladies with no paper towels for drying hands the whole time we were there, pretty sure staff knew because the toilets were otherwise being kept clean. Because of this they also ran out of loo roll by the end
There was also dog poo on our pitch on arrival.

Liked The place itself was great. Facilities were good and the pub was great. Food was amazing!

Disliked We camped next to the river as we’re keen anglers. Not even 30 yards upstream on the other side of the bridge was a waste pipe that seemed to empty every hour or so into the river, and it absolutely stunk! God knows what was pouring out. Not ideal when you have kids.
