(maximum 7.5 metres) FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked There was a pub next to the site

Disliked No lighting when on touring pitch to go to use the facilities need a powerful torch. No WiFi at all. Hard to find your pitch as the owners put a very small flag with your name on at the back of the pitch.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Friendly greeting by Melanie on arrival. Toilet block generally clean and no queues if you time it right. Pub next door takes cards and the food isn't bad. Pitch was a good size and flat. View of fields etc to one side. The 2 male showers were hot and had a decent pressure to them but you cannot self-adjust that temperature or spray.

Disliked Biggest issue for us was the road noise. We stayed for a weekend in August (schoolboy error right there!), well, we only managed one night and left. The road bordering the campsite is clearly popular with bikers with additional traffic late and early hours. No phone signal at all with Vodaphone or O2 (not owners issue but just be aware). No wifi on-site. Pub next door has wifi but it does not reach the campsite. Other customers not sticking to the campsite rules (only found this out post departure). There were clearly groups at the site in different pitches who knew each other and there were at least 2 parties celebrating that Saturday night.

Powered grass tent campsite (small)

Liked Friendly staff, level pitches, and soft ground made it easy to get pegs in. Facilities were clean with fantastic shower pressure.

Disliked We were on a bottom pitch, so had a bit of a walk up the bank to reach the facilities. Some road noise, especially from motorbikes, and occasional cow noise nearby."

Liked Beautiful views. Immaculate facilities. Had everything we needed. Brilliant walks and swims on the doorstep. Love this camp site!

Disliked I could live with less midges and a better mobile phone signal but that comes with the territory! We've been twice and would definitely go again!

Local attractions

There are plenty of places within walking distance of Street Head Caravan Park: West Burton (five minutes’ drive) has been described as one of the loveliest villages in England and has a well-kept village green leading to the natural waterfall of West Burton Cauldron. The waterfall flows downstream into the River Ure to reach the famous Aysgarth Falls (10 minutes), a favourite haunt of writer Wordsworth and painters Turner and Ruskin; the National Parks Information Centre here has guides to local hikes, guided walks and activities like climbing and caving. The area around Street Head has miles of signposted footpaths for dale, moor and village-to-village strolls too. The dales town of Hawes (20 minutes) has an intriguing set of antique shops as well as a clutch of museums of local life, while hilltop Leyburn (15 minutes) is a walking hub with a mix of cafés, pubs and fine-dining restaurants. Elegant Richmond (half an hour) is known for its castle and Georgian Theatre Royal, one of the oldest theatres in the UK. Kids with you? Take them to be bamboozled at the pyramid, passages and tunnels of The Forbidden Corner in Coverdale (20 minutes), an ever-growing folly probably best described as ‘delightfully bonkers’.
