  • Peaceful family-run park on the southern edge of the North York Moors
  • Helmsley and Rievaulx Abbey 10 minutes' drive; 40 minutes to York
  • Well-kept amenities including washing-up facilities and laundry area
Planning to nest in the North York Moors National Park for a while? If you like a small, peaceful place to stay, take a look at Wrens of Ryedale Touring Park, on the southern edge of the national park within a short drive of both Kirkbymoorside and Helmsley. This is a quiet location for a break, and it’s also easy to get to, as it’s only a little way off the A170. That handy main road also means that it’s simple enough to get out and about, whether you’re heading into the national park for hikes and other outdoor activities or escaping to the east for a day at the seaside (Scarborough is about 45 minutes’ drive away). You could also spend your days pottering around lovely market towns like Pickering (20 minutes' drive) and Thirsk (25 minutes) or exploring York's ancient city centre, which can be reached by road in about 40 minutes. Run as a family business, this friendly site is set among well-kept gardens and has some well-maintained amenities, including outdoor washing-up facilities and a handy laundry area. Well-behaved dogs are allowed to come and stay here throughout the season, and barbecues are allowed as well. A pub and Indian restaurant/takeaway are at the end of the lane, about half a mile away, for when you’d rather eat out.

What customers say

A small, adults-only site, lauded for its tranquility, cleanliness, and friendly, helpful staff. Immaculate shower block and well-kept facilities are a frequent highlight. Great base for Helmsley & Castle Howard. Some found pitches uneven/cramped & WiFi spotty, but many would return.

Liked Peaceful, clean & well maintained campsite.
Staff very friendly.
There are only about 8 pitches apart from static caravans so the showerblock was always quiet. Liked it being adults only.

Liked Absolute peace of this site, cleanliness of sanitary facilities, size of pitches and friendliness of the staff. Great position for Helmsley and Pickering.

Disliked Hard standing (flags on awning area) made pitching awning and removing pegs difficult.

Local attractions

The North York Moors National Park is packed with options for hikes, bike rides and other outdoor activities among gorgeous landscapes. If you're not feeling all that active, you don’t have to feel left out – just book in a ride on the North Yorkshire Moore Railway from Pickering (20 minutes’ drive); services run to places like Goathland (famed for its appearance in the Harry Potter films) and Whitby. For easy days out, you could also stroll around local historic buildings and estates like Duncombe Park (10 minutes), Rievaulx Abbey (10 minutes) and Castle Howard (20 minutes) or seek out ancient remains at Cawthorn Roman Camp (20 minutes). York (40 minutes) is always a great idea for a day trip – perhaps to walk the city walls, take a boat trip on the River Ouse or visit the Jorvik Viking Centre and National Railway Museum. If you like your days out to be more about animals and adrenaline rides, aim instead for the theme park and zoo at Flamingo Land Resort (20 minutes).
